Jala Forest is a culture writer, journalist and producer from Warren, Ohio. From writing poetry, to writing short stories, to painting, she has always had a passion for storytelling which led her to get her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kent State University. While there, she worked as staff writer for Kent State’s Black student magazine UHURU. She later became its editor-in-chief.
After graduating, she went on to work as the digital editor for Cleveland Magazine and Cleveland Scene Magazine, producing content for social media and reporting on Cleveland’s arts and culture scene. Jala is now a producer of her own video series Soul Currents, where she conducts in-depth interviews to amplify the stories of independent musicians, artists and culture makers.
Outside of writing, you can find Jala at a DJ set, painting, reading or listening to music.
