CLEVELAND (Jan. 12, 2022) – The Local Organizing Committee for the 2022 NBA All-Star today announced the availability of an Extended Hours Waiver application related to the 2022 NBA All-Star. Under a state law passed leading up to Cleveland’s hosting of the 2016 Republican National Convention, venues in the City of Cleveland can apply for a waiver with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. during the hosting of major events.
Completed applications for a waiver to be used from Feb. 18 – 21, 2022, must be submitted with all required information by 12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20. Applications must be emailed as a PDF, JPEG or PNG attached file to request@clevelandsports.org (PLEASE NOTE: This is an exception to the standard process given the compressed timeline for review and approval.). Late submissions will not be accepted.
“While the deadlines initially outlined on the application have passed, the Local Organizing Committee has worked with the City of Cleveland and State of Ohio to extend the process in light of the continuing challenges faced by hospitality businesses as well as the change of administration in the City of Cleveland,” said David Gilbert, co-chair of the Local Organizing Committee and president and CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Destination Cleveland. “We appreciate the State and new City of Cleveland administration’s flexibility and willingness to amend the standard process. Given the compressed timeline, it is imperative that businesses submit completed applications to request@clevelandsports.org to be considered for the waiver.”
The Local Organizing Committee will submit all completed applications to the City of Cleveland for review; the City of Cleveland will then provide a list of recommended waiver recipients to the State of Ohio Division of Liquor Control. Businesses will be notified by the State if they are granted a waiver.
NBA All-Star 2022 comes to Cleveland as the NBA celebrates its 75th anniversary season. The NBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will also host Clorox Rising Stars on Friday, Feb. 18 and State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, Feb. 19.
