In the early 1900s, the old Main Avenue
Bridge swung open over 9,000 times a
year to accommodate ship traffic on the
bustling Cuyahoga River. Now a National
Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, this
8,000-foot-long cantilever truss bridge
sits 100 feet above the river, carrying
Ohio Route 2 — “The Shoreway” — over
the Cuyahoga Valley.
