Lacy Talley - Artist Statement:
My artistic journey spans digital illustration, acrylics, watercolors and ceramics—each medium infused with vibrant color and eccentric energy. I love capturing mystical realms, filling each piece with vivid dimensions and a playful spirit. Lately, I’ve been inspired by the healing properties of crystals, channeling their vitality into my work.
Rooted in Afro-Futurism and Surrealism, my art blends color and intention to invite viewers on introspective journeys. Themes of self-awareness and transformation are central, with characters like my Bleeb Blobs and Crystal Ladies—shaped by the South Ndebele tradition—symbolizing resilience and growth.
Description of Work:
To reflect the “Sounds of the Gold Coast,” my mural features a vinyl record-shaped portal that transports viewers into the area’s rich musical and cultural past. A piano-key path emerges from the former Hub-Bub Record Shop & Realty Co., guiding the eye toward present-day landmarks like the Judge Jean Murrell Capers Tennis Courts and Glenville High School. At the mural’s center, a jazz band performs from an elevated, rotating stage inspired by Café Tia Juana’s iconic clover-shaped bar.
