So, you probably think that all practitioners of witchcraft are out here riding around on straw brooms with pointed hats hunting Glinda, Dorothy and her little dog, too, right? Well, not exactly.
We’ve found some cool spots in Cleveland that traffic in all things magic and macabre. This isn’t just hocus pocus; this is an art form.
Please remember to check individual business hours and operating procedures before visiting.
With events like the seance conducted by Susan Rawlings, there’s no wonder why this museum has been featured in numerous magazine and newspaper articles. Raymond Buckland opened the museum in 1966 as the country’s first collection of its kind with an anthropological approach to the world of folklore and the supernatural. The museum’s collection has called multiple cities home over the years, and a few superfans relocated it to Cleveland in 2015. Recently relocating to the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, this clearly isn’t your typical art museum. You can stop in to view the collection, which ranges from Ancient Egyptian afterlife dolls to artifacts from the Salem Witch trials. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick is currently only offering ticketed private tours booked in advance.
Goddess Elite, Cleveland’s oldest metaphysical store, has been a local staple for over 40 years. Owned by Melissa since 2011, the shop reflects her journey from managing books to guiding spiritual growth through certifications in Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy. In 2017, a devastating fire on the night of a solar eclipse forced the store to close, but like the goddess in its new logo, it rose from the ashes with a renewed vision. Goddess Elite continues to spread the magic with its eclectic array of spiritual goodies and healing services.
After co-owners Clement Kunkle and Hallie Wallace provided rare objects that appeared in “My Friend Dahmer” and “American Horror Story,” they realized their collection of oddities warranted a larger audience—and storefront. Opened in Lakewood in 2018, Cleveland Curiosities provides an eye-widening and jaw-dropping experience with objects like ostrich eggs, camel skulls, taxidermy and photos of a three-legged man on display.
Oktober's is a low-key, vintage-inspired haven where you can browse new tarot and oracle decks, find jewelry, oils, magical herbs and books, and inquire about monthly events like Tarot Readings, Lenormand, Palmistry, Astrology, Reiki healing sessions and Spirit Medium readings. The shop's quirky charm is matched by its owner, Jessica, who leads with a big heart, an open mind and “killer winged eyeliner.” With over two decades of experience as a practitioner of magic and life, Jessica has the savvy to ensure you not only get what you need — whether it's herbs, crystals, oils, or spells — but also understand what you're getting.
