Lovers of art, culture and history rejoice! There’s always something amazing on display when you hit Cleveland’s magnificent museum scene, and this year is no different. Explore historical artifacts from a bygone age or learn about the impending solar eclipse in these exhibits coming through Cleveland Museums in 2023 and 2024.
When gas technology came into popularity, the way light hit fabric was forever changed. Mimic a night in the life of a mid-1800s fashionista as you weave through the garments on display, with rooms lit as they would be with early electricity. “Fashion After Dark” opens at the Cleveland History Center on Sept. 21.
Multi-faceted exhibit “Exist, Flourish, Evolve” launches at moCa Cleveland this coming February with the intent of growing awareness around climate change — especially with regard to our beloved Lake Erie. With film, art and public programs in the mix, this eye-opening campaign is sure to be one of Andrea Bowers’ most impactful displays yet.
From landscape paintings to representations of religious themes, “Six Dynasties of Chinese Painting” covers it all. Paintings range from early Cleveland Museum of Art acquisitions to more contemporary finds, showcasing the best and brightest works that reflect the rich culture of Chinese people. Check out this exhibit starting Nov. 10.
In 1945 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Camp, Rywka Lipszyc’s diary was found amidst the remains of a crematorium. “The Girl in the Diary: Searching for Rywka from the Lodz Ghetto,” opening Oct. 25, documents the young woman’s life in her words — supplemented with experts’ commentary. Much like all exhibits at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, this sure-to-be impactful showing should not be missed.
The solar eclipse is coming up on April 8, 2024 — and we’re pretty excited about it. If you’re also into all things galactic, head to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History any day beginning Oct. 14 for “Eclipse Fever.” And if you’re still craving more info after that exhibit ends, it’s back-to-back with “Meeting Totality” from Jan. 15 right up until the big event itself on April 8.
