Every global traveler knows his or her passport is a badge of honor. But what if that passport showed off your love of good beer, earned you swag and gave you a new appreciation for different styles of beer — all in a city that swanks one of the best beer scenes in the world? We’d drink to that.
Destination Cleveland partnered with 32 area breweries and other industry innovators to create the Cleveland Brewery Passport, now in its second year.
As of July 1, the Cleveland Brewery Passport is in a digital format.
Download the free Destination Cleveland App from Google Play or the Apple App Store to access the Cleveland Brewery Passport. If you have stamps collected on a printed passport booklet, see the instructions below for transferring these stamps to the app.
If you have been collecting stamps in a Cleveland Brewery Passport booklet, please see instructions below to transfer your stamps to the app and maintain your progress. As announced with the transition to the digital passport, we are no longer accepting printed passports for redemption.
Originally scheduled to end on June 30, 2020, the 2019-2020 Cleveland Brewery Passport program will now run through December 31, 2020. The extension is in response to the closure of breweries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which eliminated months for passport participants to obtain stamps.
If a brewery remains closed or closes permanently during this program year (before Dec. 31), we will honor that stamp as complete for all passports.
Prize redemptions, on hold as of March 13, will resume later this year. While the Cleveland Visitors Center has reopened (as of Oct. 22.) for walk-up service and distribution of visitor-related resources, the process for in-person redemption of the brewery passport prizes will take a bit longer as we shift our fulfillment operations back to the Visitors Center.
UPDATE: All prizes are “while supplies last,” and, as of Oct. 22, we have run out of coasters. We are no longer awarding prizes at the eight-stamp prize redemption level. If you reached this level prior to Oct. 22, you will receive a prize (if coasters are unavailable, it will be a prize of equal value) in recognition of your commitment to the program. We will contact you when prize redemptions resume.
While prize redemption remains on hold, you may still collect digital stamps in the app and work toward the 20- and 32-stamp prize redemption level. If you reach prize the two remaining prizes levels during this time in the passport app, you will be notified about obtaining prize(s) when redemption resume.

Beers taste better when shared – in-person or digitally. Post a pic while you’re enjoying each brewery. Be sure to add #ThisisCLE to your post.

The Cleveland Brewery Passport is free. To receive digital stamps upon check-in within your passport, you must make a qualifying purchase (beer, food or merchandise, including takeout, growlers and to-go orders) at one of the participating breweries.
You must be 21 years old to participate in the Cleveland Brewery Passport. However, Destination Cleveland understands that not everyone wants to or can drink beer at every one of these locations. For visitors and residents to get a digital stamp in the brewery passport app, the only requirement is to make some type of purchase at the participating brewery. Merchandise even counts for securing a stamp. The passport advisory council agreed that support of craft brewers through any purchase was best. Of course, to legally consume alcoholic beverages, you must be at least 21 years old.
For participants to receive a stamp in the Cleveland Brewery Passport app, they MUST make a qualifying purchase at one of the participating breweries. A qualifying purchase includes a beverage, menu item or brewery merchandise, including takeout, growlers and to-go orders.
To collect a digital stamp in the app, click on the brewery and then the “Check In” button. Then, click “Submit Photo” and take a photo of any one of the following:
The digital stamp will be added to your account after the photo is reviewed, usually within 7-10 business days.
If you are having trouble using the Destination Cleveland app, please contact our team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Participants who obtain stamps from 20 participating breweries will receive a Cleveland Brewery Passport-branded pint glass. Those participants that collect stamps from all of the participating breweries will get a Cleveland Brewery Passport-branded t-shirt showcasing all the 2019-2020 participating breweries and will be entered into a contest to win an overnight stay in Cleveland. Please note: Prizes are available while supplies last.
Entries for the overnight stay in Cleveland will be collected over an 18-month period, beginning July 1, 2019. A winner will be chosen at random in January 2021.
The 2019-2020 Cleveland Brewery Passport program is available starting July 1, 2019 and ends at 11:59 pm on December 31, 2020. Participants have until December 31, 2020, to submit passport stamp photos to win prizes (while supplies last) and be entered to win a Cleveland getaway.
While prize redemption remains on hold, you may still collect digital stamps in the app working toward the 20- and 32-stamp-redemption level (we have run out of prizes at the eight-stamp-prize redemption level). If you reach a prize at the two remaining prizes levels, you will be notified about obtaining prize(s) when redemption resumes.
If you have a completed passport booklet that you haven’t redeemed for prizes, please transfer your stamps to the app and you will be notified about obtaining prize(s) when redemptions resume. As announced with the transition to the digital passport, we are no longer accepting printed passports for redemption.
If you already reached the 8- or 20-stamp levels in your passport booklet and redeemed for prize(s) prior to March 13, 2020, you will not receive an additional prize for reaching that check-in level as you transfer your stamps to the app.
We really do appreciate your enthusiasm and hoped to provide prizes to everyone who finishes every level this year. Passport participation this year has been even greater than we anticipated, and, because of the effect of COVID-19 on our organization’s funding, we are not in a position to order additional prizes.
We hope that you will continue supporting our breweries and hopefully your commitment can be rewarded with a prize at the 20- or 32-stamp levels.
After several months collaborating with the Cleveland brewing community, along with extensive research and discussion, the qualifying criteria for inclusion in the Cleveland Brewery Passport were determined to be:
Destination Cleveland will re-evaluate the Cleveland Brewery Passport and participating breweries on an annual basis.
*Destination Cleveland, with the guidance of our Brewery Passport Advisory Council, ultimately reserves the right to include or exclude establishments on a case-by-case scenario that may fall outside of the criteria stated here.
Yes. Keep the receipt from your purchase and submit a photo in the Cleveland Brewery Passport app.
If a brewery closes it will remain in the app for the remainder of the passport year, but with the following changes:
There are many challenges that breweries face as they reopen and adjust to the impact of COVID-19. The Brewery Passport program is adapting to support breweries and help address these challenges. In the instance that a brewery is not able to reopen to the public, yet brewery operations continue, they may designate a satellite location that features their brews as a temporary switch for a digital stamp. The satellite location will be removed once the brewery is able to reopen to the public.
Have a blast exploring Cleveland’s craft beer scene. Throughout your journey, share the fun with us by using the hashtag #ThisisCLE on social media. Please drink responsibly and always use a designated driver, public transportation rideshare service.
