Young professionals stride down West 25th Street, making the walkable commute to work with a steaming cup of Phoenix Coffee in hand. Curious shoppers browse the endless stalls of the West Side Market — the beating heart of Ohio City — sampling locally-sourced meat and produce on the very same spot that their parents and grandparents once did.
Murals and other expressions of street art appear around every corner, adding a splash of color and vibrancy to everyday life. The nearby Transformer Station, too, gives emerging artists a chance to shine on the biggest stage.
Ever since the Conway brothers opened Great Lakes Brewing Co. here in 1988, Ohio City has ranked as the undisputed hub of Cleveland’s flourishing craft brewery scene. Ohio City’s got the food front covered, too. Whether it’s smash burgers at Juneberry Table, a slice of pie from Cent’s Pizza or heaping pastrami sandwiches from Larder in Hingetown, you absolutely cannot go wrong. Oh, and don’t forget to end the day with a sweet treat at Mitchell’s Ice Cream or Mason’s Creamery.
The West Side Market, with its majestic clock tower and stunning Guastavino-designed vaulted tile ceiling, looms large over tree-lined streets and the hustle and bustle of Ohio City.
