CLEVELAND (June 3, 2020) –
Destination Cleveland today announced an update to its recently introduced initiative to help lead the region out of the initial phase of the COVID-19 crisis. The business-focused CLEAN COMMITTED program, originally scheduled to launch online today, will begin on June 10. Businesses can learn more when the program launches next week at

“The death of George Floyd is intolerable, and the suffering that resulted when our community’s peaceful protest unfolded into violence is devastating for all,” said David Gilbert, president and CEO of Destination Cleveland, the destination marketing and management organization for Cuyahoga County. “Given the manifestation of the deep-seated and decades-long simmering issue of systemic racism that our city and country must address, there is much more to consider as we shape and finalize a campaign that was designed to inspire our community.”
Gilbert continued, “There is a clear call for our society to take action to dismantle systemic racism, and Destination Cleveland is determining what actions we will take to best support this movement. We must also keep our commitment to businesses as they work to rebound from the challenges and personal loss presented by COVID-19. We will move forward with our CLEAN COMMITTED effort to also help assure residents and visitors of our community’s responsible reopening.”
Modifications to the remainder of the organization’s COVID-19 recovery campaign – including the theme and focus of the resident-driven #MyWordMyCLE commitment – remain under consideration.
How the CLEAN COMMITTED Program Works
Destination Cleveland is collaborating with its community partners to help the region’s businesses emerge as quickly and safely as possible from the COVID-19 crisis, with tourism and hospitality businesses as the initial focus.
Recent research from Destination Analysts found that consumers need visual assurances of cleanliness and sanitation at places of business to enhance their feeling that their health is being prioritized. Destination Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, the City of Cleveland and the region’s healthcare experts at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, City of Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, The MetroHealth System and University Hospitals are asking tourism and hospitality business owners to be CLEAN COMMITTED by adopting a standard set of cleanliness practices.
In recognition of voluntarily agreeing to operate by the uniform standards, Destination Cleveland will promote tourism and hospitality businesses as CLEAN COMMITTED and provide an opportunity to access supplies that promote cleanliness and help to protect people. Its partner, Supply Side USA, is offering the products at reasonable rates to any business that agrees to be CLEAN COMMITTED.
In addition to bulk supply purchase (e.g. thermometers, industrial size sanitizer, etc.), CLEAN COMMITTED businesses can obtain CLEAN KITS, which are intended to be provided to patrons. The individually sealed packets contain three PURELL SINGLES® Advanced Hand Sanitizer Packets, a paper mask and recommended practices to follow when in the community. Business owners that make the CLEAN COMMITMENT will receive materials to post to illustrate the clean practices.
