Illuminate CLE

The Land of Illuminated Nights

The Nightly Downtown Lighting Exhibition

Cleveland has always had a glow, but now we’re turning up the brightness. ILLUMINATE CLE is bringing bold, dynamic lighting displays to the heart of Public Square, transforming the cityscape into a vibrant, immersive and illuminating experience.

Picture this: Cleveland’s most iconic buildings lit up in synchronized color and motion, shifting to the rhythm of music, creating a dazzling spectacle you won’t want to miss. Talk about glow-up, and it’s just getting started.

This project isn’t just about lights—it’s about making Cleveland feel even more connected, walkable, and alive after dark. And we’re not stopping at downtown. ILLUMINATE CLE will expand into neighborhoods across The Land, shining a light on the city’s energy and creativity.

Launched in 2025 through a partnership led by Destination Cleveland, this initiative builds on the legacy of the Terminal Tower's legendary light displays, extending its color themes across Public Square and beyond. Since 2016, the K&D Management team has been lighting up the skyline to reflect Cleveland’s diverse and vibrant spirit.

Come see The Land in a whole new light. Learn more about Tower City Lights here.

Cleveland has always had a glow, but we’ve turned up the brightness. Illuminate CLE brings bold, dynamic lighting displays to the heart of Public Square, transforming the cityscape into a vibrant, immersive and illuminating experience every hour, on the hour, from dusk until 11:00pm.

This project isn’t just about lights — it’s about making Cleveland feel even more connected, walkable and alive after dark. Launched in 2025 through a partnership led by Destination Cleveland, Illuminate CLE builds on the legacy of the Terminal Tower's legendary light displays, extending its color themes across Public Square and beyond. Since 2016, the team at K&D Management has overseen the operations of the Tower’s lights to represent Cleveland’s diverse and vibrant community spirit. Learn more about Tower Lights here.

Learn The Land's Lighting History

Since 1796, Public Square has been Cleveland’s front door and living room — a place where residents and visitors come together. This 10-acre park in the heart of Downtown is a true gathering space, complete with a wide-open lawn, splash pad, café and nods to the city’s history. The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument; statues of Tom Johnson and Moses Cleaveland; the Old Stone Church; and Terminal Tower all tell the story of The Land’s past.

On April 19, 1879, Cleveland made history when inventor Charles F. Brush lit up Public Square with the first public demonstration of electric street lighting. Thousands watched as his arc lamps beamed across the night — technology that changed the world. A replica still hangs on the Society for Savings Building, a glowing reminder of Cleveland’s innovation. Learn more about The Land’s lighting history in a short video, here.

Today, Public Square is shaping the city’s future with hundreds of new residents, reimagined office spaces, renovated hotels and a steady pulse of events. And now, through Illuminate CLE, we’re bringing The Land back in the spotlight.

Inspired by The Land for The Land

This high-energy light show will run nightly on the hour, from dusk to 11 p.m., lighting up Public Square with a blend of music, voice and motion that captures the spirit of The Land.

The first show, launching the evening of April 16, 2025, features synchronized lighting, custom music and authentic Cleveland voices that reflect the city’s identity. The soundtrack — written and produced by Cleveland-based Other Animal — showcases a lineup of local artists across genres, including rock journeyman Ray Flanagan, pop powerhouse Chayla Hope and rap icon Krayzie Bone.

Told through local voiceover talent, the show’s narrative celebrates what makes Cleveland, Cleveland — bold, resilient and undeniably real. All of it comes to life through a vivid, animated display of light and sound that can only happen here in The Land.

Jacobs Pavilion Takeover Nights

Jacobs Pavilion is getting in on the Illuminate CLE fun. The riverside concert venue can now control the Terminal Tower lights through the stage lighting system, adding even more CLE ambiance to the show.

On select nights during the summer concert season, when the Tower is synced to Jacobs Pavilion, Illuminate CLE will remain in its resting state color theme from dark until midnight.

We’re excited for this creative lighting collab between our partners K&D and Jacobs Pavilion to continue lighting up The Land.

Keep your eyes peeled on our social platforms for updates.

Illuminate CLE FAQs

Through inclusive collaboration, we can enhance experiences for visitors and residents of The Land. Destination Cleveland will fund nearly half of the project and will raise the project’s remaining budget. Interested in helping the effort? Click below to learn more.

More Illuminating CLE Experiences

Cleveland Badge Benches and the Cleveland Crystal

Cleveland Badge Benches offer a multisensory experience - a rest stop for you and your crew to relax and a curated view to enjoy. Turn the oversized hand crank and the colored frame comes alive with sustainable, LED retro puck lights, some tunes and a brief message about our city.

These larger-than-life photo ops relocate from time to time to showcase all of The Land’s best views. The Cleveland Badge Benches are currently located at:

  • Orange Badge –  Great Lakes Science Center, 601 Erieside Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114
  • Green Badge – Cleveland State Food Truck Park, 1935 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115
  • Red Badge – near 5th Street Arcades, 514 Prospect Ave. E, Cleveland, OH 44114

The Cleveland Crystal, located at the intersection of West Mall Drive & Rockwell Avenue in Downtown Cleveland, is a contemporary urban art piece that embodies the city’s energy, history, and aspirations for the future. Designed in the shape of a multifaceted crystal, each face of the installation reveals a different layer of Cleveland’s identity – from its rich industrial past to its cutting-edge architectural and cultural achievements.

During daylight hours, the reflective upper section interacts with the urban landscape, seamlessly blending into the city’s architectural context. At night, the integrated RGB lighting transforms the installation into a dynamic, striking symbol that interacts with its surroundings and casts mesmerizing light and shadow patterns all around it.
