WHAT’S PLAYING: We will continue our “Chill Wills & The Avalon Boys” theme, with the Tent Premier of : It’s A Gift (1934), one of W.C.Fields' best! Though he is rarely thought of as a physical comedian, his performance is graceful and athletic, with biting dialogue and timeless comedic elements. Fields is in the familiar role of "down-trodden little man" just trying to make it in an increasingly crazy world. Campfire performers, Chill Wills and His Avalon Boys (Art Green, Don Brookins & Walter Trask) sing “On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away (1897). Also with Baby LeRoy, Kathleen Howard, Del Henderson, Donald Meek & Jane Withers . Based on a story by Charles Bogle (W.C.Fields) Them Thar Hills (1934) with Mae Busch & Billy Gilbert. Ollie hums “The Old Spinning Wheel”with choral effects by Stan . Their extended squabble with Charlie Hall is one of their funniest sequences. It inspired their only sequel Tit For Tat(1935) which received an Oscar nomination. “The Old Spinning Wheel” is hummed by Mae Busch with choral effect by Stan. Also with Charlie Hall, Bobby Dunn, Baldwin Cooke and James C Morton. The 23rd International Sons of the Desert Convention will return to Another Fine Mess Oasis #49 Sacramento, California in 2024.
