Join us for free all day at the Maltz Museum! Honor iconic civil rights leader the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and everyday citizens who fought against discrimination while celebrating the everyday hero in you. Tour the Maltz Museum’s permanent collections and special exhibition, This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement, while enjoying hands-on activities on this family-friendly day!

Featured Keynote Speaker Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, III For the launch of his new book, DANCING IN DARKNESS, a life-affirming guide to the practical, political, and spiritual challenges of our day. Drawing on the teachings of Dr. King, Howard Thurman, sacred scripture, southern wisdom, global spiritual traditions, Black culture, and his own personal experiences, Dr. Moss instructs you on how to practice spiritual resistance by combining justice and love. This collection helps us tap the spiritual reserves we all possess but too often overlook, so we can slay our personal demon, confront our civic challenges, and reach our highest goals.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the Museum partnered with StoryFile to capture the courageous life story of Cleveland icon and civil rights activist Reverend Dr. Otis Moss Jr, as an Interactive Conversational Biography. An artificial intelligence (AI) version of Rev. Moss can answer audience questions in real time, mimicking an actual conversation. Registration required. (11 AM time slot is sold out. Stop the Hate Essay Writing Workshop

Each year the Maltz Museum awards $100,000 in scholarships and prizes to Northeast Ohio student upstanders, as part of its annual Stop the Hate contest. During this one-hour workshop designed for 6th – 12th graders, Lake Erie Ink will provide insight on how to craft a personal essay that tells a powerful story. Learn tips and tricks for essay writing to give students an edge in the competition (and in future college applications)! Registration required.
