It’s Cleveland’s year as a championship city for the first time in decades, and just like the city itself, Cleveland-themed items and clothing are in demand more than ever.
How does one keep from fading into the crowd now that the Comeback City is all the rage? With items from these well- and less-known Cleveland clothing and art stores, you’re sure to make a statement.
CLE Clothing Co. have shops on the east and west sides and Downtown. You’ll find locally made swag bearing slogans like “Burning River Surf Club” and “C-Town Don’t Back Down.” What else would you expect from two enterprising Cleveland natives whose motto is “Spreading Cleveland Pride, One T-Shirt at a Time”? Shop online or at one of four brick-and-mortar stores, all named by Scene Magazine as the “Best Place to Buy a Piece of Cleveland.”
Pro tip: Send them a pic of you sporting their stuff, and you can snag 20 percent off your next order.
GV Art + Design is another classic clothing shop whose creators, local artists Greg and George Vlosich, are also spreading the Cleveland love. Purchase one of George’s custom Etch-a-Sketch drawings of the Downtown skyline (Oprah-approved!) or get a limited-edition print of LeBron James. The brothers have also designed a “CleveLAND That I Love”-themed clothing line, plus even more that you can find at their retail studios in Lakewood and Willoughby.
Fresh Brewed Tees is a company that sells its 216-themed wares out of a retail truck, as well as locations in the West Side Market and Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Think everything from cornhole boards to hoodies to baby onesies, all decorated with Cleveland classics, of course.
Flea but not Free
There's no better place to find vintage and one-of-a-kind items than Cleveland Flea. Many of their partners make unique Cleveland prints and clothing that act as the perfect statement piece.
The Cuyahoga Collective is a self-described “purveyor of goods and objects for the home,” and their aesthetic fits perfectly into the Cleveland scene. Check out their new store located in Lakewood to find hats, sweaters or a Cleveland-related art print. We recommend the Guardian Print, because what’s cooler than giant statues guarding a bridge into the city?
Paper Cutz is an all-etsy print maker that takes pieces of paper from Cleveland’s history (think a 1950s picture of Cleveland’s skyline from the Plain Dealer) to make unique prints. While their range reaches beyond the city of Cleveland, most of their prints focus on The Forest City. The LeBron-on-LeBron print channels all of our inner Kings.
Chris Deighan Art is the store of a young Northeast Ohio artist. His unique ink-based art style can be purchased as prints or apparel. Not interested in the amazingly detailed cityscapes of Cleveland as a sweater or greeting card? Check out one his abstract works for a piece that will make you notice and admire something new every time you look at it.
Although they don’t make their own clothing, a unique business model for Cleveland clothing has popped up on Instagram in The Land Secondhand. This young startup takes Cleveland and Ohio State gear and gives it a second life through online auctions. Get those fast fingers ready: You have to be alert and willing to bid to walk away with one of their items.
