Trademark & Brand Policy

The Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, Inc., dba Destination Cleveland, owns the trade names, trademarks, service marks and trade dress used by it in connection with promoting Northeastern Ohio as a destination. Among these trademarks is our proprietary Cleveland Script design shown below:

Destination Cleveland developed the Cleveland script trademark (the “Script”) to increase the visibility of our city and celebrate the amazing people, natural beauty and creative spirit that define our region. The Script can be seen throughout Cleveland—most famously as the iconic, free-standing signs offering the perfect photo op for locals and visitors alike.

The Cleveland Script is legally protected in the United States and internationally, but we don’t mind if you use it. We provide licenses to enthusiasts who love The Land and use the mark to evangelize Cleveland pride. These licenses are renewable yearly and sometimes royalty-bearing. Submitting a license request means that you agree to use it in a way that reflects the positive values of our people, city and region, and that you accept the following rules for its use.

Your use of the Script means you agree to the following:

• You will comply with all usage and quality control specifications provided to you by Destination Cleveland at any time, including updated specifications sent to you from time to time. You will use the Mark only as permitted hereunder and for the purposes set forth in your initial request.

• Destination Cleveland reserves the right to revoke any permission it has granted to you in the event your use of the Mark does not conform with these terms and conditions, including all usage and quality control specifications provided to you, or if your use of the Mark in any way detracts from the goodwill of the Mark. Such revocation will be effective immediately upon your receipt of written notice from Destination Cleveland.

• Destination Cleveland reserves the right to deny this and all requests to use the Mark, for any or no reason.

• You agree and acknowledge that Destination Cleveland owns all right, title, and interest in and to the Mark, and that no title to the Mark or ownership of any related intellectual property rights is transferred from Destination Cleveland to you hereunder.

• You agree and acknowledge that all rights and goodwill accruing through use by you of the Mark will inure to the benefit of Destination Cleveland. You agree to assist and cooperate with Destination Cleveland in the perfection and/or enforcement of those rights.

• Any permission granted to you pursuant to this form is for the Mark only.

• You will not copy, display, or otherwise use the Mark without identifying it as the exclusive property of Destination Cleveland and, if requested, will place the following sentence, in a type and size reasonably designed to be legible to all viewers, directly next to or below the Mark: “The CLEVELAND script is a registered trademark of Destination Cleveland.” Any copying, display, or other use of the Mark without attribution, or in any way which implies that you or any other party is the owner of the Mark, will be considered a breach of these terms and conditions.

• Any permission granted to you is based on information you have provided on this form, and will be null and void if that information is false or incomplete. Such permission will be valid only through the end date. You will cease all copying, display, and other use of the Mark on that end date. Any copying, display, or other use of the Mark after that end date will be considered a violation of Destination Cleveland’s intellectual property rights and these terms and conditions.

• You agree that any violation of Destination Cleveland’s intellectual property rights or the terms and conditions hereunder will cause great harm to Destination Cleveland and that, in addition to monetary damages, Destination Cleveland may seek injunctive relief to address such harm.

• This agreement will be governed by the laws of the State of Ohio. Any suit relating to this agreement will be brought only in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in Cleveland, Ohio, and you consent to service of process from Ohio.

All requests to use the Cleveland Script must follow this process:

1. Complete the Application Form: Available on the Destination Cleveland website.

2. Provide Documentation: Include examples of the proposed use (e.g., sketches, mockups, product samples, marketing materials). Any submissions that do not follow the Usage Guidelines will be denied.

3. Wait for Approval: Applications are reviewed within 14 business days.

4. Sign Agreement: Approved uses require signing a licensing agreement outlining usage and royalty fees.

Destination Cleveland actively monitors the use of its logo. Unauthorized use may result in:

• Direct outreach requesting compliance with guidelines.

• Legal action for persistent or egregious violations.
