Housing

The Land of Loving Where You Live

Cleveland's Downtown, neighborhoods and suburbs offer endless options.

There’s a lot to consider when relocating to a new city. But in Cleveland, you can check “housing options” off your checklist. We’ve got a wide variety of offerings from urban to lakefront living. Whether you’re looking for the charm and cultural vibrancy of Cleveland neighborhoods, or a thriving, spacious outpost in the suburbs, you’re going to find exactly the vibe that fits you and your lifestyle in The Land.

Don’t just take our word for it, though. Cleveland is one of Zillow’s Top 10 hottest housing markets in 2024, due in large part to the region’s affordability – as our typical mortgage and rent payments fall far below the national average. From stylish new downtown apartments to pursuing the dream of homeownership, there are few cities that offer this much living for less.

Welcome Home

Affordability is just the beginning in The Land.

With a melting-pot of diverse neighborhoods, rich history, vibrant culinary scene and world class entertainment, there’s certainly no shortage of reasons to consider a move to Cleveland. But near the top of any list would have to be how affordable it is.

A recent report from Homebuyer.com placed Cleveland among the top 20 most affordable cities in the country in which to buy a house, a welcome sight in a market plagued by rising mortgage rates and low inventory. With a median home sale price of $110,000 and an average rent of $1,066, our housing costs sit at 17% below the national average.

Whether you’re seeking an easier commute, a high concentration of museums or family-friendly neighborhoods, you’ll live more for less in The Land thanks to a cost-of-living that's 6% below the national average.

Downtown Living

Day by day, the beating heart of our city reaches new heights.

Join a community of about 20,000 residents (and rising) who want to be in the heart of it all. In the last decade, downtown residency has grown by close to 20% and projections expect that growth to continue. The next decade is expected to bring the greatest shift to Downtown Cleveland’s urban core since the city began its renewal.

Downtown living options range from penthouse apartments with lake and river views to lofts at various price points in districts that include the waterfront and nightlife thrills of The Flats; the Gateway District, a downtown hub for major concerts, Cavs hoops and Guardians baseball; and the Warehouse District, filled with fine dining eateries, wine bars, stylish nightclubs and urban lofts. A recent study from CBRE, a worldwide commercial real estate services company, recognized Downtown Cleveland as the number one city in the nation for its share of office spaces slated for residential conversions.

People living in Downtown Cleveland also enjoy one of the most walkable U.S metros around, offering access not only to restaurants and entertainment options, but also amazing views of Lake Erie.

Cleveland Neighborhoods

Pockets of rich culture and history surround the city.

There’s no better way to tell the true character of a city than through its people, and Cleveland’s neighborhoods spotlight the full diaspora of cultures and communities that make this city the special place it is.

If you can believe it, many visitors are surprised to discover that Cleveland is a waterfront city with beaches and sailing. The neighborhoods of Edgewater and Detroit Shoreway take full advantage of those amazing views with unmatched green spaces and add in an amazing arts district, to boot. Ohio City offers the West Side Market, a Cleveland institution and food-lover’s dream since 1912, as well as some of the best craft breweries around.

On the east side, the Cleveland Clinic draws about a third of its nearly 60,000 employees to the area, with a sprawling hospital campus that works to positively impact the surrounding nearby Fairfax and Hough neighborhoods. University Circle is home to the Cleveland Orchestra, world-renowned museums, prestigious universities, eclectic restaurants and green spaces galore that include the Cleveland Cultural Gardens and the Cleveland Botanical Garden.

Cleveland Suburbs

East, West or South Side, The Land's many communities thrive.

Outside city limits, the term Greater Cleveland more than lives up to its name, surrounded by communities rich with their own history and character.

The East Side is a cultural center, with Beachwood’s Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage celebrating the rich heritage of Cleveland’s Jewish community, and Cain Park’s summer arts festival and outdoor concerts in trendy Cleveland Heights. Luxury retail therapy awaits at Pinecrest in Orange Village, Legacy Village in Lyndhurst and the Van Aken District in historic Shaker Heights.

Over on the West Side, bustling Lakewood offers great restaurants and shops, as well as culture and parks. Westlake is home to the vibrant lifestyle center and shops of Crocker Park. Grab a paddle and hit the water in Rocky River or steal a sunset on Bay Village’s Huntington Beach.

Head south to tap into the Old-World energy of Parma’s Polish and Ukrainian Village districts, the outdoor majesty of Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Brecksville and Independence, or pick up something cute at SouthPark Mall in Strongsville.
