Pick Your Fall Persona

Find things to do in Cleveland this fall for every personality — and plenty of reasons to brag about autumn in The Land.

Cody York
Rebecca Ferlotti October 11, 2026

The fall vibes have arrived in The Land, and we’re pumped for gorgeous fall foliage and all the seasonal activities that come with that crisp, cooler weather. If you haven’t already chosen how you’ll make the most of autumn on Lake Erie, pick your fall persona below and let Cleveland do what it does best.

Outdoor Enthusiast

Fall weather is perfect for enjoying time outside, whether you’re hiking the Metroparks, Cuyahoga Valley National Park or even just biking your way around town. From leisurely strolls to heart-racing adventures, there are plenty of opportunities to spend the season in the great outdoors — and plenty of reasons to brag about spending fall in Cleveland.

Brandywine Falls – Not only does Brandywine have killer winter sports, but the park is stunning too, especially when fall transforms the treetops into a canopy of color. Spend some time soaking in the beauty of the falls or cruise the trails with your friends, family or four-legged expedition partners. If you’re looking for more adventures, keep exploring CVNP or hit up the Emerald Necklace.

Patterson Fruit Farm — For a bushel of fall fun, spend the afternoon picking apples at the fruit farm that’s been a Clevelander seasonal pilgrimage for generations. Located about 20 miles east of downtown, you’ll find fresh and local goods, scratch-made bakery treats and autumn-themed activities to go with your apple cider.

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center – For curious minds of all ages, families will love peeking around the Nature Center and learning about the animals that call the area home. Free and open to the public year-round, there’s opportunities to check out the outdoor bird exhibits outdoors and indoor interactive displays, including the Schuele Planetarium (for a fee).

Bookstore Lover

There’s nothing quite as cozy as cuddling up with a book and cup of tea. With so many options around town for your next favorite read, make this fall your time to explore other worlds and learn new things through the power of reading.

The Viridian Bookshop – If you’re a fan of fantasy adventures both on the page and around the game board, this Willoughby locale is the place to be. Inject a little whimsy into your life and gather with friends for some Dungeons & Dragons or browse the curated selection of fiction reads.

The Reading Room CLE – This cozy nonprofit bookstore tucked in Kamm’s Corners has a little something for every reading preference. With a mission to fund literacy programs within the community, a visit to The Reading Room CLE means your new read comes with supporting a meaningful cause. Visible Voice Books — Books. Cafe. Stage. Are you lacing up your Doc Martens yet? This independent Ohio City bookstore offers shelves packed with stories waiting to be discovered, a cafe serving everything from lattes to lagers, and live performances on the historic building’s original stage.

Coffee Shop Obsessed

Smell the autumn breeze and the scent of your favorite seasonal latte wafting from the windows of your go-to coffee shop. Spend a little time working, planning your Halloween costume or putting together your fall vision board with a warm mug in hand.

Dahlia Coffee – Now with two locations in Edgewater and Old Brooklyn, this woman- and Latina-owned business has specialty (and classic) bevvies that’ll get you hooked after one visit. Grab a Dulce de Leche Latte, a Mexican Mocha or try a new-for-fall Pumpkin Spice Horchata — chances are, you won’t regret it.

Heartwood Coffee – Combining friendly service and killer cold brews, Heartwood offers welcoming community spaces in Hudson, Chagrin Falls, Brecksville and Pinecrest. Don’t be afraid to lean into the fall cliché a little — grab a bakery treat to enjoy with your coffee or tea. Flannel optional, but encouraged.

Fig Leaf Coffee Company – This Chesterland roastery takes you on a trip around the world without ever leaving Cleveland, with a selection of single-origin coffees from Colombia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to Papua New Guinea. You can taste the love that goes into these additive-free beans as soon as you brew them, giving you that coffee-shop quality right at home.

Arts & Culture Addict

The Land has no shortage of arts and culture — from our world-class museums to fun fall festivals. For those who crave a spookier vibe, there are plenty of cemeteries, like the iconic Lakeview and historic Riverside — and haunted stops to appease your witchy heart.

Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick – It doesn’t get more Halloween (or should we say Samhain?) than a museum dedicated to the history of witchcraft. Knowledgeable staff are eager to answer any questions about occultist and namesake Raymond Buckland’s personal collection, with artifacts added from visitors and admirers alike. To explore more of The Land’s witchiest corners, start with our go-to guide for all things mystical.

Great Lakes Theater’s Sweeney Todd — For a fall activity with a little bit of drama, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is tailor-made for spooky season. Catch Great Lakes Theater’s production of the macabre musical at Playhouse Square’s Hanna Theater from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8 — thrills, chills and chuckles included. If you’re looking for an encore, check out our list of local theaters worth a standing ovation.

Dittrick Museum of Medical History – Learn about the weird and wild history of medical science at Case Western Reserve University’s campus museum (on the 3rd floor of the Allen Memorial Medical Library). Check out the history of reproduction exhibit, learn about diagnostic tools dating back to 1875 and check out more than 175,000 artifacts, including a dedicated “Folklore and Oddities” case.

Sports Fanatic

Get out to a Browns, Cavs, or Monsters game this season and you’ll see the way Cleveland fans get rowdy – whether Oktoberfest beers are involved or not. Check out our page dedicated to all things Cleveland sports fandom and stay updated on the pro teams coming in 2027 and 2028 — soccer clubs Forest City Cleveland and Cleveland Astra, and the WNBA’s return to The Land with the Cleveland Sirens.

Tailgate in the Muni Lot — It’s basically a Cleveland rite of passage to spend a fall Sunday morning tailgating in the Muni Lot. Between sizzling grills, decked out Brownsmobiles and fans with faces painted orange and brown, it’s the ultimate place to start gameday before joining the pilgrimage to the stadium for kickoff. Then, check out our Browns fan itinerary to discover our favorite post-game hangs.

The Second-Best Seat in the House — No ticket? No problem. With Cleveland’s thriving beer scene and fans who bring game-day energy wherever they go, you’ll never have to root for the home team alone. Some of our favorite places for serious gameday revelry include Masthead Brewing Co., Gillespie’s Map Room and The Corner Alley — or check out our curated guides to enjoying fall sports in CLE below:

Music Buff

Whether your playlist leans rock and roll, pop or country, Cleveland’s plethora of live-music venues are bound to have a show for you. Get a group of friends together for a local concert or browse a classic record shop — who knows, maybe you’ll find your new fall soundtrack.

My Mind’s Eye Records — In the birthplace of rock and roll, what’s more fitting than taking a trip to one of Cleveland’s (many) iconic record stores? This Lakewood vinyl shop is the perfect place to spend an afternoon flipping through row after row of hidden gems, new wax releases and even pieces of the Cleveland music scene to take home with you.

Mahall’s – For dance parties and an eclectic mix of indie artists, Mahall’s is your place. There’s no shortage of events this fall, including a Taylor Swift-themed Halloween party. You and your group can also rack up some strikes with classic bowling while you’re there — old-school scorekeeping included.

Welcome to the Farm – Head to The Flats for some live country music and good eats. There’s plenty of weekend shows to choose from — plus artists that come back time and time again, so you can catch your favorite acts multiple times a season. After the applause, check out our trip planner for more music musts in The Land.

There’s a reason so many Clevelanders claim autumn as their favorite season. Choose your next fall adventure and settle down into a slightly slower pace in the coming months — still with plenty of adventures that make fall in The Land so special.
