9 Must-Try Seafood Dishes in Cleveland

Follow the Cuyahoga River to Lake Erie, then head inland for nine plates that show how Cleveland does seafood.

Sarah Green September 08, 2026

What Seafood Should You Try in Cleveland?

Cleveland’s must-try seafood dishes start on the water: smoked fish dip at Alley Cat, Lake Erie walleye at The Lakehouse and The Galley, a lobster roll at Shooters, Pacific rockfish at Pier W and a salmon BLT at 1330 on the River. Then the route heads inland for seafood bouillabaisse at Sazani Oceana, crawfish étouffée at Bourbon Street Barrel Room and Nags Head Grouper at Blue Point Grille.

That makes six waterfront stops and three city favorites away from the shore. You can build a whole weekend around the list, but one riverfront lunch and a lake-view dinner will make the point: Cleveland is a waterfront city, and dinner is one fine way to meet it.

How we picked these nine: Every restaurant is paired with a current, specific seafood dish with a uniquely Cleveland experience; the waterfront got priority, but distinctive inland plates earned room. This is a curated guide, not a ranking. Keep reading if your stomach is already rumbling.

1. Smoked Fish Dip at Alley Cat Oyster Bar

The Flats makes a convincing first stop when the first bite is Alley Cat Oyster Bar’s smoked fish dip. The current menu keeps the description wonderfully short: salmon and Old Bay chips. But get the full experience as the cool, smoky fish crunches against the seasoned chips while the riverfront setting supplies the sense of occasion.

Order it for the table before deciding how deep to go into Alley Cat’s raw bar and seafood menu. If your Cleveland seafood crawl needs an opening scene, this is it. It’s something shareable with a Cuyahoga River backdrop and plenty of room for what comes next.

2. Lobster Roll at Shooters Cleveland

Shooters Cleveland returned in 2026 with a new coastal-minded menu, but the river is still the main character. Shooters is currently serving currently serving a lobster roll, an easy fit for a stop where you can pull up via boat, dock beside the dining area and savor the West Bank view stretching across the Cuyahoga.

This is the casual, stay-awhile part of the route. Come for lunch where there’s live music or a local DJ setting the vibe, split the roll and give yourself time to watch the river traffic. The dish may read East Coast, but the setting is classic Cleveland.

3. Lake Erie Walleye at The Lakehouse

The restaurant is now simply The Lakehouse, and its current menu gives Lake Erie walleye a Cleveland-ready treatment: a Ritz cracker crus with sautéed broccolini, bay seasoned red skin potatoes and lemon butter sauce to top it off. It is familiar without being sleepy, and substantial enough to anchor dinner after a day spent Downtown.

The Lakehouse sits on the Cuyahoga River at Flats East Bank, so the view keeps the waterfront story moving even when the plate points to the lake. Ask for the current menu when you reserve, then settle in for the river after dark. You’ll catch the bridges and passing boats tend to handle the entertainment themselves.

4. Walleye Fish and Chips at The Galley

At East 55th Marina, The Galley puts the lake close enough to feel like part of the order. Its fish and chips use breaded Lake Erie walleye with sea-salt fries, sriracha slaw and charred lemon. A straightforward plate with just enough spark around the edges.

The restaurant opened with the Patrick S. Parker Community Sailing Center in 2026, giving visitors a new reason to pull off North Marginal Road and stay for sunset. Go when you want the most literal version of this list: Lake Erie fish, served at a Lake Erie marina.

5. Pacific Rockfish at Pier W

Pier W is the dress-up stop, perched above Lake Erie with downtown Cleveland on the horizon. Current local coverage follows the kitchen’s Pacific rockfish, while Pier W’s own menu page explains its direct relationship with fishermen and its seafood-first sourcing approach.

Choose this one when the view matters as much as the plate. Reserve for an anniversary, a celebratory dinner or simply the night you want Cleveland’s shoreline and skyline to make the experience. The menu is seasonal, so treat the rockfish as the dish to ask about when you book, not a promise carved in stone year-round.

6. Slammin Salmon BLT at 1330 on the River

At 1330 on the River, the Slammin Salmon BLT brings grilled lemon-pepper salmon, bacon, greens and tomato together with pesto-basil aioli. It is the most relaxed full meal on this list, recognizable, easy to order and built for a riverfront table.

Find 1330 on Flats East Bank, where the patio faces the Cuyahoga and keeps you close to the district’s boardwalk energy. This is a smart midday move when you want seafood without turning lunch into a formal production. But make sure you come hungry, the sandwich is doing more than its share of the sightseeing. *don’t love this last sentence

7. Seafood Bouillabaisse at Sazani Oceana

The list leaves the shoreline at Sazani Oceana at Shaker Square in the Greater Buckeye neighborhood, where the seafood bouillabaisse gathers jumbo shrimp, mussels and snow crab around squid-ink linguine in saffron tomato broth. It is a generous, composed bowl and a useful reminder that Cleveland’s seafood conversation does not end at the water’s edge.

Shaker Square gives you a different Cleveland setting, and the bouillabaisse rewards the detour with a dish that moves from shellfish to pasta to broth without losing the plot.

8. Crawfish Étouffée at Bourbon Street Barrel Room

Tremont takes the next turn. Bourbon Street Barrel Room puts crawfish étouffée among its Creole and Cajun classics, bringing a Louisiana dish into Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.

This is the order for anyone who wants seafood with warmth, spice and a little less ceremony. Pair dinner with a neighborhood wander, or make it your answer to a gray-weather day when a breezy patio is not part of the plan. We don’t draw the line for delicious seafood at the shoreline, especially when the bowl earns the trip.

9. Nags Head Grouper at Blue Point Grille

Finish Downtown in the Warehouse District with Blue Point Grille’s Nags Head Grouper. The current dinner menu pairs pan-roasted grouper with lobster mashed potatoes, garlic spinach and chive velouté, a polished final plate that leans into the restaurant’s seafood identity.

Blue Point is inland, but only a short move from the riverfront stops in The Flats. Save it for the evening when you want a polished finish, then walk back toward the water and get all of the big city energy. Nine dishes in, Cleveland has made its case.

More Seafood Menus to Keep in Your Back Pocket

Still hungry? Collision Bend pairs a riverfront patio with a current salmon sandwich; EDWINS Oyster Bar in Cleveland Heights serves East and West Coast oysters shucked to order; and Acqua Di Dea continues the Downtown tour with a cioppino with clams, shrimp, white fish and mussels. They are not secret tenth-place finishers, just good reasons to keep the seafood map open.

Bring the Catch Home

Want to take dinner into your own hands? Start at Kate’s Fish inside West Side Market for options such as whole fish, house-smoked salmon and sushi-grade fish.

In the AsiaTown neighborhood, locals point to Kim’s Oriental Food for fish and other Korean groceries, while Tink Holl Food Market carries seafood alongside a broad pantry selection. Ask what came in that day, then let the counter guide your plan.
