CLEVELAND (March 13, 2020) – With the ever-changing situation around COVID-19 and in consideration of the unprecedented measures put in place by government officials to protect public health, Destination Cleveland today announced that it is postponing its “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown” activities scheduled for March 27-29.
“While it is absolutely disappointing to postpone ‘Be a Tourist in Your Hometown’ weekend, Destination Cleveland wants to provide the best experience for Northeast Ohio residents and our event partners, and we are unable to do that right now with the continually changing circumstances,” said David Gilbert, president and CEO, Destination Cleveland. “With the institution of rules around large gatherings by the State of Ohio, our plan to leverage our partners’ events and venues where large audiences would already be gathering isn’t possible, and we must adhere to the government directive.”
Gilbert continued, “The health and safety of residents, partner organizations’ staff, volunteers and our staff is a top priority for Destination Cleveland. ‘Be a Tourist in Your Hometown’ activities could unnecessarily put people at risk and further the spread of COVID-19 as we were hoping to drive residents to businesses and experiences throughout the area.”
Destination Cleveland intends to reschedule the “Be A Tourist in Your Hometown” activities, pending the repeal of the State of Ohio rules for large gatherings. The new date will be shared when it is available.
