CLEVELAND (Aug. 27, 2018) - Labor Day Weekend may mark the unofficial end to summer, but warm weather vibes will still be in full force around the CLE. Activities for residents and their visiting family and friends range from a regionwide art exhibition to aerial acrobatics to a showcase of amazing automobiles, and Destination Cleveland recommends residents take advantage of at least one of eight great ways to experience Northeast Ohio over the long weekend.
Cleveland National Air Show
- If locals are looking to take flight for the long weekend, they don't have to leave town on a jet plane. Instead, they can see an abundance of airplanes - both on the ground and in the air - at the Cleveland National Air Show. Residents can gaze at the show in the sky, which features the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Jet Demonstration Team, a U.S. Navy E-2 Hawkeye Fly-By, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and the Shockwave Jet Truck. The grounds of Burke Lakefront Airport will also be brimming with display aircrafts and activities for attendees like the U.S. Navy Virtual Reality Experience and the Go Army Experience.
- Burke Lakefront Airport, 1501 N. Marginal Road, Cleveland
- Saturday, Sept. 1 - Monday, Sept. 3, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art
- For an art adventure that encompasses three counties in Northeast Ohio and more than two dozen locations, Clevelanders can explore FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art. This inaugural exhibition features local, national and international artists. From wall murals in Downtown Cleveland and food art at the West Side Market, to a larger-than-life sculpture in Uptown and exhibitions in the Cleveland Public Library and the Steamship William G. Mather, residents can fill their weekend with art admiration (and plenty of perfect snaps for their social media feeds).
- Various locations throughout Northeast Ohio. For more information, visit www.frontart.org.
Cars in Cleveland
- Auto aficionados will want to race to Public Square for Cars in Cleveland. This free event features exotic and luxurious cars made by Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche and Rolls Royce. Plus, residents can check out an Aston Martin Vulcan, one of only two dozen in existence. Live music, activities, and food and drink round out this car celebration in Downtown Cleveland.
- Public Square, Downtown Cleveland
- Sunday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Cleveland Oktoberfest
- For a trip to Germany without leaving Cuyahoga County, locals can raise a stein of beer and stop by the Cleveland Oktoberfest. Watching the Glockenspiel, polkaing the day and night away, and savoring a full plate of Bavarian food options (stretchy pants are a must) are just a few ways that Clevelanders can eat, drink and be merry as they revel in this annual autumn festival.
- Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, 19201 E. Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights
- Friday, Aug. 31, 4 - midnight; Saturday, Sept. 1 - Sunday, Sept. 2, noon - midnight; Monday, Sept. 3, noon - 8 p.m.
The Cleveland Orchestra
- The force will be strong in The CLE over Labor Day Weekend as the Cleveland Orchestra performs "Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert - Live." Residents can transport themselves to a galaxy far, far away at Blossom Music Center as the Orchestra plays John Williams' score live in conjunction with the film "Star Wars: A New Hope." Picnicking before the show is encouraged, and fireworks will follow each performance (weather permitting).
- Blossom Music Center, 1145 W. Steel Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls
- Friday, Aug. 31 - Sunday, Sept. 2, 8:30 p.m.
The Great Geauga County Fair
- For a fair share of fun, food and festivities, locals can spend the day (or four!) at The Great Geauga County Fair. Located less than an hour from Downtown Cleveland, the Great Geauga County Fair is the oldest fair in the state. Each day offers different activities and live entertainment like the Geauga County Fair Band, the Chardon Polka Band, racing pigs, a chicken flying contest, an apple pie contest and hot air balloons.
- 14373 N. Cheshire St., Burton
- Thursday, Aug. 30 - Monday, Sept. 2, 9 a.m. - midnight
Cleveland Indians
- Clevelanders can take their visiting family and friends out to the ballgame as the Tribe takes on the Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals over the holiday weekend. An added bonus at the games (aside from seeing the Indians win, of course) are special promotions which include Dollar Dog Night and fireworks on Friday, a 1948 road gray jersey giveaway and fireworks on Saturday, and KeyBank Kids Fun Day on Sunday.
