Ukrainians first arrived in Cleveland in the mid-1880s, settling in the Tremont neighborhood just west of the Cuyahoga River. Today, Northeast Ohio is home to more than 35,000 Ukrainian Americans.
The United Ukrainian Organization of Ohio, established in 1928, helped create the Ukrainian Cultural Garden, which Mayor Harold H. Burton formally dedicated June 2, 1940.
