Since 1967, the Romanian Cultural Garden has honored Romanian-American cultural heritage in an urban garden setting. A green glade framed by evergreens and maples sets the scene for a bronze statue of George Enescu (1881–1955), a celebrated Romanian musician. Sculptor Boris Caragea created the statue in Romania; Enescu also had ties to Cleveland through performances with The Cleveland Orchestra.
Romanian immigrants arrived in Cleveland in the late 1800s and early 1900s, many from Transylvania, drawn by factory and steel-mill work. Cleveland became an early home for Romanian churches and cultural groups in the U.S
