On Saturday night, July 24, 2021, the Whiskey Island Boat Club will host their annual “Parade of Lights”. The boat club has brought back an old tradition for the past eleven years, with over 60 boats participating last year. Participants will decorate their boats for Christmas in July and parade their boats from the mouth of the Cuyahoga River up to Merwin’s Wharf and back.
Decorated boats will meet at the mouth of the river at approximately 9:30pm. We have invited all neighboring marinas in recent years and continue to see increased participation as well as many spectators on the shores of the Cuyahoga.
Many Clevelanders will remember the Riverfest that used to happen on the Cuyahoga River in the 80’s and 90’s. The parade of lights was just one of the events that happened during Riverfest.
Who is Whiskey Island Boat Club?
Whiskey Island Boat Club (WIBC) was formed in the summer of 2009 and has over 150 members. We are made up of people who have a boat at a dock or in dry stack, a jet ski, or other water toy that sits on land by the water’s edge or just someone who enjoys the lifestyle at the marina (but doesn’t have a boat). We are friends and families who enjoy boats and boating, fishing, picnics, music and the beautiful sunsets over Lake Erie. We continue to promote safe boating through our monthly meetings and various communications throughout the year.
We are a member of the Greater Cleveland Boating Association (GCBA) which allows for reciprocity with other member marinas and yacht clubs. If you would like more information, please contact: WIBCCleveland@gmail.com
