It’s not simply his abundant virtuosity that has made Christian McBride the most in-demand bassist of his generation. Bandleader and national jazz spokesman McBride consistently combines his deft musicianship with a showmanship that transforms his passion into infectious joy. Although he is known for jazz, McBride has a strong strain of funk and soul in his DNA, and he jumped at the chance to celebrate the music of Cleveland native Bobby Womack. Known for songs such as “I’m a Midnight Mover,” “California Dreamin’,” and “Breezin’,” Womack, a 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, was also known for his session work as a guitarist. McBride will be joined for this one-of-a-kind performance by special guests Avery Sunshine, Nona Hendryx and Nigel Hall, and a slamming jump band.
