Anyone can go out to a giant farm, look around and say “hey, let’s throw a music festival here.” It takes a special kind of visionary to go out on their front porch in their bathrobe to get their morning paper and think the same thing. Lucky for us, the good people of Cleveland’s Larchmere neighborhood are those visionaries. Larchmere Porchfest is one of the most charming music festivals in America, featuring 30 local bands performing on 30 neighborhood porches. Artists ranging in genres from rock, blues, soul, pop, hip-hop, world music and more ensure something for everyone at every porch.
Porchfest is like a parade from an alternate universe, where the marching bands and local politicians in convertibles all stay put along the route while onlookers move up the street to see them. Attendees will move from house to house to watch performances from neighborhood front yards, as well as some restaurants and shops along the way. That means you’ll probably want to bring some lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and maybe even a cooler. Since you’re practically a guest in these neighborhood homes, please be sure to pick up any trash you might create – it’s the least you can do when someone throws a rock concert on their lawn. With 22 bands playing at as many venues, be sure to pick up a schedule and map at the Info Tent on the corner of E. 127th Street and Larchmere, where you can learn more about the neighborhood, buy t-shirts and take advantage of restrooms.
There sure is, friend! No visit to Larchmere is complete without visiting the many amazing shops, art galleries and restaurants that line the Boulevard. Nothing beats a classic diner breakfast from Big Al’s Diner, where the Corned Beef Hash is to die for. Head to Hola Tacos for the mouthwatering, mindblowing flavor explosion that is a birria taco. Try Felice Urban Café for American and global cuisine with veggie and vegan options in a gorgeous century home setting. Once you’re full of tasty Larchmere eats, you’ve got to hit the shops. Book lovers will lose themselves in the new, used and rare tomes at Loganberry Books. Touch history at Bingham’s antiques, Elegant Extras and Marc Goodman Antiques, or explore the many other art, craft and clothing boutiques that line the boulevard. Larchmere Porchfest 2022 is set to rock Larchmere Blvd. June 25. Check out their website for up to date announcements on participating bands and other festival information.
