GemStreet USA Show comes to town September 24-26
Find unique treasures at the GemStreet USA Show & Sale, coming to the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds September 24-26. Shop from an abundance of gems, jewelry, beads, fossils, minerals and home décor items, and meet renowned artists, jewelers, designers, gemologists and collectors.
“We bring together knowledgeable people who search the world over for the earth's most distinctive and interesting things,” says show producer Gail Strieter.
You’ll find one-of-a-kind items not available in stores or online, including wire-wrapped cabochon necklaces, teak wood sculptures made from 200-year-old roots, and rare Ethiopian opals.
One of the best-known vendors is Tamie Simpson of Small and Beautiful beads. Her stunning Fair Trade-certified Kazuri beads have an interesting back story. The company was founded in 1975 by a British socialite, Lady Susan Wood, who started a coffee plantation in Kenya on the same land made famous in the movie “Out of Africa.” Her idea with Kazuri, which means “small and beautiful” in Swahili, was to provide much-needed work for the local economically disadvantaged women who could hand-paint these one-of-a-kind beads. Today they are sold worldwide.
“This fall we have introduced jewelry made from river stones, which are gorgeous in earrings, bracelets and necklaces,” says Tamie. “They create a very natural, earthy feeling in muted browns and grays and various shapes. We can set them in a graduated manner on leather cords.”
In addition to jewelry and gems, at the Soaring Crystal booth, attendees can connect with their inner scientist by cracking their own geodes to discover the breathtaking crystal formations that lie within.
