Shipwrecks of Lake Erie—Fire, Storm, & Collision Divers Mike and Georgann Wachter March 26, 2018 Lake Erie has perhaps the largest concentration of shipwrecks per square mile of any body of water in the world. From the 1700s to 2018, a variety of military and commercial vessels have been lost in her turbulent waters. Both active members of the Maritime Archaeological Survey Team and Lake Erie Wreck Divers, authors Mike and Georgann Wachter present the discovery of several storied shipwrecks in a historical timeline. The Wachters have been diving the world’s waters since the mid 1970’s, discovered over 35 wreck sites, published a Lake Erie shipwreck map, written several books, and authored numerous magazine articles. The Unwritten History Series is free and open to the public. All speakers are presented at Cleveland Grays Armory with a grant made possible by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. Doors open at 6 pm. Presentations begin at 7 pm. A cash bar is available and a fee-based dinner (6:30 pm) may be purchased with advance registration.
