Happy Days are Here Again!
Celebrate the Twenty-First Amendment at Prosperity Social Club’s Prohibition Repeal Party

“Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live for days on nothing but food and water,” joked comedian W. C. Fields. Prosperity Social Club invites you to toast the end of that era and the ratification of the Twenty-First Amendment at the the pub’s Prohibition Repeal Party on Sunday, December 4, 2016, 7pm - midnight. The evening includes live music, dinner specials and, of course, drinks far smoother than anything concocted with bootlegged bathtub liquor. “Every year we mark the end of the Volstead Act by partying like its 1933,” says owner Bonnie Flinner. “We’ll be making Roaring Twenties’ mixed drinks that are nods to two iconic authors of the period who shared their love for a good drink in life and in literature.” Selections include the F. Scott Fitzgerald Rolls-Royce ($8), the Tuxedo Cocktail ($8), the Ernest Hemingway Special ($8) and a fruity Planter’s Punch ($9.50) utilizing the readily available rums that were being run from Cuba to Florida during Prohibition. “We’ll also have Anchor Steam on special for $4.00,” adds Flinner. “Steam is a beer style brought over by Czech and Germans immigrants that managed to survive the dry spell that was America’s ‘noble experiment.’”

Partygoers can also get another taste of FDR’s America with throwback comfort food platters like the Fried White-Bread Bologna Sandwich with Homemade Chips ($9) or City Chicken, Mashed Potatoes and Braised Red Cabbage ($13). And drinkers and diners will be treated to the vintage blues, swing and jazz stylings of none other than Cleveland’s own Hollywood Slim from 7 – 9pm.

“The anniversary of Prohibition’s repeal technically is December 5th, but since that’s a Monday we decided to get an early start,” says Flinner. “We’ll continue the party until the stroke of midnight and offer a $5 late-night Prohibition cocktail happy hour beginning at 10pm that’s perfect for night owls and our peers in the restaurant service industry.”

There’s no cover for the Prohibition Repeal Party and Hemingway- and Fitgerald-inspired costumes or attire reminiscent of bootleggers, rumrunners, mobsters, teetotalers, WPA artists, crooners or movie stars is encouraged. Guests who want to dine during Hollywood Slim’s performance are encouraged to make reservations by calling 216.937.1938.
