Growing up in Cleveland’s Villa Hispaña, Priscilla was always surrounded by creative people but fine art seemed to be reserved for others. With bright colors and a lexicon of symbols inspired by both Cleveland and Puerto Rico, Priscilla makes art to enable Puerto Ricans to see themselves and their stories in fine art as easily as any other creative endeavor. The artist makes art about themselves and their people. To remember and to rebuild what was taken. They reclaim and celebrate their identities: genderfluid, Puerto Rican and a child of immigrants. Their exhibition is a love letter to their family and their culture. It is a way of seeing themself and their history. They draw on indigenous iconography and myth to create a foundation for how people in the diaspora are today and how things could be in the future.They want to make art that is respected by people they admire and reaches the people they come from.
