Domenico Boyagian, Music Director Celina Bethoux, Violin The orchestra will be performing: Marche and Danse bohémienne from La jolie fille de Perth is an opera in four acts by George Bizet. Bizet has been praised for his striking melodic and instrumental ideas. As in numerous pieces Saint-Saëns composed, the Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor, Op. 61 allows the soloist to display technical prowess and refined musicality. Celina Bethoux, age 14, soloist, performs the Violin Concerto brilliantly. Celina began violin studies at age 5. She currently is in the CIM Preparatory Chamber Music Program and a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Celina continues to win competitions and is determined to reach out to others through her music. A sarabande is a dance with origins in Spain and later became popular in France as a slower, stately dance. Debussy marks Sarabande as a dance “with a serious and slow elegance”. The Pulcinella Suite became a signature of friendship between Stravinsky and Picasso. This work left an indelible mark on Stravinsky’s life because it marked the second phase of Stravinsky’s composition, the neoclassical phase. It was his discovery of the past and a look in the mirror, too.
