"Look Alive" is their 8th album, primarily recorded in a vintage keyboard museum in Calgary, AB, during a frigid January that hit 30 degrees below zero. They ended up in Canada when their British producer, Leo Abrahams, couldn’t secure an American work visa in time, making Studio Bell a lucky find. Despite the array of well-maintained analog keyboards, Leo was drawn to a cheap Ensoniq Mirage synth from the '80s, which produced Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation-era sounds from floppy disks. While Leo spent hours exploring these disks, the band admired the mellotrons and harpsichords around them. This created a stylistic clash that ultimately blended beautifully. They have always favored “warm” sounds, but Leo introduced them to “cold” sounds that challenged them as listeners, making him the perfect complement for Guster.
