Mentally ill Spider (Ralph Fiennes) is released from an asylum and moves into a halfway house. He spends his days roaming the neighborhood, piecing together memories of his youth with his terrible stepmother (Miranda Richardson), who to Spider’s mind, looks much like the unrelenting landlady where he lives. “What catches us in Spider‘s web — besides the indelible performances of Fiennes and Richardson — is the director’s sympathy with this freak man-child who struggles to order his confused memories into a kind of truth” –Peter Travers, Rolling Stone.
