Cleveland Public Library hosts a virtual presentation and discussion about the importance of owning, controlling, and preserving Black and African American history through the art of storytelling, documenting, and archiving our past. Shelli Reeves (Reframe History Cleveland) will focus segments of the presentation on the history of Black Glenville through the lens and voices of the Black community. Shelli Reeves is the founder and CEO of Reframe History. She has dedicated her life to breaking down barriers and building community. She uses innovative ways to start conversations about social determinants of health while focusing on community, society, and policy. Her activism has led her to do work within museums, media, and political campaigns. Most recently, at ideastream, Shelli uses community engagement techniques to co-create projects that focus on the intersection of social determinants of health, marginalized communities, and pubic media. Reframe History is an organization dedicated to keeping stories alive through archiving the past, recording the present, and advocating for the future. Specifically, she does this by building a virtual African American Museum that is accessible through a mobile app where people can learn and share stories. She consults with large and small organizations to share stories that are not often highlighted. She ensures that each project she works on is focused on marginalized communities and influencing positive, but not always easy, change. When she is not creating exhibitions and sharing stories, she is tending to her 27 plants and teaching yoga throughout Cleveland.
