The Cleveland International Tattoo is the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society’s annual event to honor their fallen heroes. A European military tradition, musicians would march out at the end of the day and play to signal troops to return home before the castle gates were locked for the night. These nightly performances from bagpipers and drummers became immensely popular with villagers, and subsequently became more and more elaborate. The “tap-toe” – shortened to “tattoo” – endures to this day. This annual event, open to everyone and all ages, is part of the Greater Cleveland Police Memorial Commemoration that honors those peace officers who fell in the line of duty. Pipe and drum corps from police departments throughout the United States and Canada, marching bands, drill teams and more all come together in fellowship for a night of music and pageantry you won’t soon forget. The Cleveland International Tattoo takes place on Saturday, May 16 in Public Hall at Cleveland Public Auditorium. Tickets on sale soon.
