Prolific saxophonist, Howie Smith, returns to BOP STOP to present a solo livestreamed concert. To watch this stream please go to BOP STOP's Facebook page at showtime. Accessing the stream is free but donations are encouraged and can be made here: https://givebutter.com/howie For more than twenty-five years one of the classes Howie Smith taught at Cleveland State University was Jazz Survey, a course designed to acquaint non-music majors with some of the major musicians associated with that style of music. The final class of every semester was an hour-long, completely improvised solo concert that utilized any and all of the instruments and electronics he had on hand at the time. On a number of the thirty concerts that were part of his annual Concert in Progress, he was the sole performer, again utilizing a variety of instruments and electronics. This performance at BOP STOP will probably include a few of the solo pieces from the Concert In Progress series, plus some new ones. Then again, it may be an hour or more of completely improvised music . . . or a combination of both.
