CLE Rocks Presents… is a live recording of cleveland.com’s popular CLE Rocks podcast. The series looks back at some of the most historic music events, places and people in Northeast Ohio history. For each live event, host and cleveland.com reporter Troy L. Smith will be joined by an esteemed group of panelists offering their first-hand takes on that night’s subject in front of a live audience invited to interact.
In 1972, David Bowie began a special relationship with Cleveland, launching his Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Tour at Music Hall on September 22. It was Bowie’s U.S. debut.
Bowie would return to Northeast Ohio numerous times over the next 30-plus years, including legendary stops at the Agora (with Iggy Pop in 1977), Richfield Coliseum and Blossom Music Center with Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. Cleveland would hold a special place in Bowie’s heart thanks to WMMS being one of the first radio stations in the country to play his music.
“A Celebration of David Bowie” brings together the people who were there right from the start 50 years ago to chronicle Bowie’s relationship with Northeast Ohio and examine the once-in-a-lifetime artist’s legacy. Be there to hear the stories and see rare photographer from Bowie’s early concerts. It will all be recorded as part of Cleveland.com’s CLE Rocks podcast.
