This is Legends of The Land, a podcast series that centers on some of those absolutely burning questions we all have about Cleveland — the kind of stuff no one is talking about – but probably should.

Woman Owned Business: Shopping in Cleveland

Local Retail that Makes Shopping Easy

Supporting women-owned retail never goes out of style, and The Land offers no shortage of ways to do just that.

Crocker Park

Stop by Crocker Park and pop into FOUNT, where you will be immediately be greeted by the sights — and luxurious scents — of fine leather handbags and goods put forth by creative director Jackie Wachter.

Detroit-Shoreway

Over in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood, you will instantly feel Parisian-chic when you step foot in Oceanne, where French designer Anne Harrill showcases her line of minimalist-yet-striking modern jewelry and accessories. And if pockets in women’s outerwear are your thing (who doesn’t love pockets?!), bookmark Yellowcake. Project Runway alum Valerie Mayen showcases her signature line of luxury clothing and accessories at 78th Street Studios, also located in Detroit Shoreway.

Rocky River

In Rocky River, don’t miss Tart Boutique, a charming shop brimming with thoughtfully curated treasures. From stylish apparel to unique home goods and locally handmade products, this boutique truly has something for everyone. Insider tip: If you spot something you love, snag it quickly — items here tend to sell out fast.

St. Clair-Superior

Heading back to the East Side, there’s plenty more to explore. Get lost inside Rebuilders Xchange (RBX), a creative promised land of sorts with over 70,000 square feet of space in the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood. Here you can peruse architectural salvage and building materials — from the ordinary to extraordinary — thanks to the vision of founder Jessica Davis.

Shop Online

Of course, not all of Cleveland’s women entrepreneurs do their thing inside a brick-and-mortar.  Head online to find a bevy of unique and desirable offerings from extraordinarily talented Cleveland creatives! Case in point: DK Jones, who is not only a fitness guru but also an accomplished chemist. This unique combination led to the founding of Hippie Chemist, a line of 100% all-natural body care products produced locally in Parma.

Another thriving online business is Perfect Pineapple run by CEO Charron Martin. Inspired by a scarf that her grandmother once gave Martin, this fashionable and functional collection features hassle-free head wraps for every season and occasion.

The beauty overload continues at Love, Anji. The flagship destination for paper florist Anji Brooks’ creations lived inside the historic 5th Street Arcades for nearly a decade and has recently pivoted to an online business. Take a peep at the online store to choose from nearly a dozen varieties of meticulously crafted and stunning paper flowers (none of which will ever set off anyone’s allergies).

Looking for HGTV-worthy inspo? Jennie Doran, co-owner of Room Service, combines curiosity, function, and beauty to curate the wide array of goods housed in this stylish lifestyle boutique — from kitchen goods to soaps to apparel and everything in between.
