Cleveland never stops. Whether it’s new developments popping up all over town, a spate of high-profile sporting events, or visiting exhibitions of high culture, this year is shaping up to be one of our best yet.
Progressive Field hosts the Midsummer Classic on July 9. No ticket? No problem. MLB All-Star FanFest brings interactive exhibits and autograph sessions during its July 5-9 run at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. Step into the batter’s box, toe the rubber or just rub elbows with baseball legends. Fun fact: Cleveland has hosted the ASG six times — more than any other team.
Staycation Cleveland-style from March 20-24, 2019 during Be a Tourist in Your Hometown weekend. Plan on plenty of discounts and special events while brushing up on your local knowledge. The Cleveland region is just bursting with hidden gems.
In 2019, Sustainable Cleveland commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River fire. But, make no mistake; The Land is all about clean living and going green these days. Expect special activities on and around that infamous June 22 date.
World-class international soccer returns to The Land for a Gold Cup doubleheader at FirstEnergy Stadium. We do all kinds of football in Cleveland. On June 22, the United States Men’s National Team arrives for a pivotal Group D showdown. Cheer on the red, white and blue as they seek another continental championship.

Her artwork, signature style and public persona all go under the microscope in this rare look at a modern legend. The museum follows that up with “Shinto: Discovery of the Divine in Japanese Art” (April 9–June 30).
Become an honorary member of the Parker fam with the new tours and overnight stays at this West 11th landmark. Just don’t stick your tongue on any frozen flagpoles. Will you be the first to solve the mystery of the Forbidden Frontier?
A $250,000 investment will upgrade almost 75 percent of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium’s public space. That means more species, improved classrooms and a bigger spotted turtle exhibit. Never fear — the aquarium remains open throughout the renovation.
MOCA Cleveland might be the art of now, but 2019 is all about celebrating the museum’s 50th anniversary. From March 22–July 28, swing by for Lee Mingwei’s self-titled exhibition that features four interactive projects. Stop in often as the galleries change three times a year.
It’s going to be another show-stopping year under the chandelier at Playhouse Square. January opens with the classic romance of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” before the Broadway Series kicks into high gear with “Miss Saigon,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “School of Rock,” “A Bronx Tale” and “Come From Away.” This summer, “The Lion King” caps off an unforgettable season.
Last year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unveiled an entire floor dedicated to the genre’s biggest stars — with the “Power of Rock Experience” a particular highlight. Although the Class of ‘19 will be inducted in Brooklyn, their HOF exhibit arrives in the spring. Until then, give the rock-themed pinball machines at “Part of the Machine: Rock & Pinball” a spin. Try to beat our high score. We dare ya.

After The Q’s $185 million transformation project, you won’t recognize the place. Seriously, it’s stunning. The glass facade and atrium headline a dramatic exterior makeover, while several new clubs enhance the game-day experience. With these swanky new digs, no wonder the league awarded Cleveland the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.
Phase III of the redevelopment to the Flats East Bank brings a 12-story mixed-use building with 300+ apartments, rooftop green space, an outdoor pool and tons of retail. And, by summer, three more riverfront restaurants will open along the east bank of the Cuyahoga River. Don’t sleep on the high-end iPic cinema, which developer Scott Wolstein dubs the “Rolls-Royce of movie theaters.”
Our skyline is about to get a major facelift. Cleveland set an ambitious goal to attract 20,000 downtown residents by 2020 and — with projects like these — looks to be on track for a smashing success.
