Exploring Cleveland’s Little Arabia

Middle Eastern Food, Culture & Community in The Land

Tucked along Lorain Avenue between West 117th and West 130th, Little Arabia is a reminder of just how much culture lives inside of Cleveland's neighborhoods and how delicious that culture can be.

This stretch of the West Park neighborhood is where Clevelanders go for fresh-baked pita, strong tea, rich spices and warm hospitality. It’s a place where generations of Arab American families have built businesses, created community and shared their traditions with anyone who visits. If you want to experience Cleveland like a local, this is a great place to start.

Built on Culture and Community

Little Arabia’s roots trace back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when immigrants from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq and other parts of the Arab world came to Cleveland in search of opportunity. When they got here, they built more than businesses. They built community.

Today, that legacy continues through family-owned restaurants, markets and gathering spaces that reflect both tradition and evolution. Walk down Lorain Avenue and you’ll find a neighborhood that feels deeply rooted and constantly alive — where culture isn’t curated, it’s lived.

Where to Eat in Little Arabia

Come hungry. This stretch of Cleveland is packed with spots locals swear by.

For Meals On the Go

  • Assad's Bakery and Mediterranean Cuisine – A neighborhood institution known for fresh bread, pastries and mouthwatering sandwiches.
  • Levant Shawarma – A go-to for shawarma and quick, flavorful bites. Dine in or take out one of their delicious dishes.
  • Reef al Yemen – Known for rich, traditional Yemeni dishes and a strong community presence.

Other Arab American-Owned and Middle Eastern Spots Around Cleveland

The flavors of Little Arabia stretch beyond the neighborhood, too. Add these spots to your Cleveland food list:

  • Algebra Tea House – A cozy, Palestinian-inspired tea house in University Circle, perfect for slowing down and staying awhile.
  • Franks Falafel House – A casual favorite for falafel, shawarma and other Middle Eastern staples.
  • Sittoo's– A Cleveland staple for Lebanese favorites, with a location downtown near Playhouse Square.
  • Aladdin's Eatery – Fresh, approachable Middle Eastern dishes with Cleveland roots.

Where to Get Ingredients

Part of the Little Arabia's charm is browsing the markets with shelves stacked with spices in bulk, teas and ingredients you won’t find just anywhere. Take your time. This is where you explore and discover something new.

More Than Food

What makes Little Arabia special is the people behind it. Business owners, families and community leaders have shaped this area into a place of connection and pride. Many are involved in organizations supporting Cleveland’s Arab American community, creating spaces for education, advocacy and cultural celebration. It’s a neighborhood built on relationships and visitors are always welcome.
