Looking for a fun night out on the town, but missing the pieces to put it together? Here are three proximity-conscious versions of what a great weekend night in Cleveland looks like.
Ohio City and Ohio sports:
There’s a reason Ohio City is Cleveland’s unofficial Brewery District. Start off the night with a one of the many craft seasonal beers offered by Platform Brewery’s tasting room. This beer incubator will give you a chance to taste homebrewed recipe from local brewers in a bar setting. Kind of a Cleveland dream.
Farm-to-table style restaurants have been growing rapidly in Cleveland, and the Flying Fig has been at the forefront of the movement since day one. Head chef Karen Small combines her loves for sustainable agriculture and great food to produce a truly Cleveland vibe.
Recommendation: The Ohio Pork & Dumplings mixes local ingredients with housemade dumplings to make a genuine plate that can’t be beat.
Catch a game
Ohio City is a short drive or walk over to the plaza of champions. If it’s in the winter, check out the national champion Cleveland Cavaliers or Monsters in a game at Quicken Loans Arena. In the spring, the American League champion Cleveland Indians are more than likely swinging for the fences at Progressive Stadium. You’re sure to have a blast with the Cleveland sports teams that never seem to quit.
Spend a night on Lee Road:
The Tavern Company
After moving to a new location to where a neighborhood favorite, The Colony, used to reside, Tavern Co. is offering the prime atmosphere to start your night off on the east side of Cleveland. The spacious patio is the perfect complement to an extensive drink list befitting of the restaurant’s name.
You don’t have to walk too far up Lee Rd. for fine dining. Taste offers a relaxed atmosphere with a sophisticated menu ranging from house-made pizza of the day to crab stuffed salmon.
Recommendation: The Grilled Lamb Rip Chops - you won't regret it.
Movie at Cedar Lee Theater
One of the most cultured theaters in Cleveland, the Cedar Lee Theater is always offering a vibrant mix of classic, foreign and blockbuster movies. There’s bound to be something all of your friends can agree on every night. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for special showings, like the recurring midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
See an in-house play on the square:
Capitalizing on one of the city’s fastest emerging downtown locations, this brasserie situated in Playhouse Square has the atmosphere to get you in the mood for a night of theater. This artful bar and restaurant features one of the biggest lists of signature cocktails in Cleveland.
Cowell and Hubbard
Two of life’s finer luxuries are nice jewelry and better food, so it’s easy to love this Zack Bruell restaurant that operates in the same space as the famous Cowell & Hubbard jewelry store which was founded in 1861. The perfect location is only outdone by the beautifully plated and delicious tasting dishes.
Recommendations: You can never do wrong with the pasta du jour, but since the dish is du jour you’ll have to see the ingredients for yourself!
See a play
It’s not hard to find a show in the second biggest Theater District in the US outside of Broadway. Playhouse Square is home to nine theater and one outdoor performance space, so if one theater isn’t playing something that matches your taste you won’t feel left out. You can experience off-Broadway and Broadway-caliber productions for as cheap as $10. Is there a more perfect way to cap off your night?
