The Greater Buckeye neighborhood envelops the old Buckeye, Larchmere, Shaker Square and Woodland Hills communities. Shaker Square, the nation’s second-oldest outdoor planned shopping district, connects the city of Shaker Heights and its surrounding suburbs east of Downtown with a Regional Transit Authority (RTA) rapid transit station.
Plans for investment in the area’s arts and innovation are afoot. In August of 2022, Cleveland’s City Planning Commission approved a master plan for the district, working with community development partner Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. to attract outside investors while stimulating local entrepreneurship.
The James Beard Foundation has twice recognized EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant Institute, which has grown to encompass a fine French restaurant, bakery, butcher shop and Edwins Too – a community kitchen and culinary incubator known for its live entertainment and decadent $44 takeaway meals that feed a party of four.
A mile north, tucked into a two-story converted home on Larchmere Boulevard, you’ll encounter Poppy – the newest venture of James Beard Award-nominated chef Jill Vedaa and her business partner, sommelier Jessica Parkison.
