KeyBank State Theatre at Playhouse Square

The KeyBank State Theatre is one of five fully restored historic theaters at Playhouse Square, one of the world’s premier arts districts; it first opened on February 5, 1921 as a venue for vaudeville and movies. The lobby features four (now priceless) murals by American modernist James Daugherty. Today, you’ll find Broadway, concerts, comedy, dance performances, and more on its stage – the largest proscenium stage in the state of Ohio. Playhouse Square is a cornerstone of Cleveland’s cultural identity, hosting more than 1000 performances annually – from Broadway hits and concerts to comedy and special events. Playhouse Square is home to eight resident companies and 12 venues. Free public tours off a behind-the-scenes look at the district’s rich history, architecture and vibrant legacy. Its theaters and elegant lobbies are also available for private rentals, making it a standout venue for planners seeking a memorable space. Playhouse Square delivers unforgettable experiences in a grand and inspiring setting.
