The Hope Memorial Bridge is situated over the mighty Cuyahoga River on Carnegie Avenue. Since 1932, the iconic piece of Art Deco architecture has linked Cleveland’s east and west sides, connecting the Ohio City neighborhood to downtown. It serves as home to the 43-foot-tall “Guardians of Traffic” statues that represent the historical progress of transportation.
The overpass carries travelers near the West Side Market to the foot of downtown Progressive Field, home to the Cleveland Guardians. And yes — the baseball team’s name is a tribute to the bridge’s renowned sandstone Guardians.
To see the expansive skyline views and twisting waters below for yourself, travel along Carnegie Avenue heading either towards or away from Downtown Cleveland. If you’d rather visit on foot, a walkway is accessible on both sides of the bridge, with the north side providing a barrier between pedestrians and traffic.
