Hard Rock Rocksino
Gamble, jam, eat, drink, laugh, repeat. The Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield Park makes for a multi-purpose night (or day) out.
About 20 miles from both downtown Cleveland and Akron, the Rocksino opened in late 2013 with the ceremonial smashing of several guitars. It’s now open 24-7 with no sacrifices required for admission.
The “rock” part refers to Hard Rock Live, a 2,600-capacity concert venue booked by Live Nation.
And all around, you’ll see the kind of music memorabilia (Eddie Van Halen’s red motorcycle, a Diana Ross gown, etc...) that the Hard Rock chain is known for.
The “sino” part refers to more than 2,200 slots-like video lottery terminals, or VLTs. The complex also includes Northfield Park, a harness racing track since the 1950s. Horses pulling two-wheeled carts race more than 200 nights a year here. There’s also simulcast horse racing from around the world.
On top of the music and gambling, there’s comedy at Club Velvet and an investment with clear returns--food.
What’s a sino, ca- or rock-, without a buffet? Here, it’s called Fresh Harvest and features more than 64 items a day. (Does a certain Beatles song come to mind?)
There’s also the Hard Rock Café, of course. Or, catch a steak at former NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar’s Wood-Fired Grill.
