Event - Hey Big Spender

The Musical Theater Project and Cleveland Jazz Orchestra join forces once again for their third annual collaboration at Playhouse Square. On Saturday, January 28th at 8p and January 29th at 2p we will perform “Hey Big Spender: The Cy Coleman Songbook” at the Hanna Theatre. The music of composer Cy Coleman (1929-2004) combines both jazz and Broadway sensibilities. He received his first notoriety as a pianist in jazz trios performing in Manhattan clubs. However, his real fame came from his songwriting hits (often in collaboration with Carolyn Leigh and Dorothy Fields) such as “Hey, Look Me Over!,” “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “The Best Is Yet to Come,” “Witchcraft” and in the Broadway stage productions of “Sweet Charity,” “Barnum,” “The Will Rogers Follies” and “City of Angels.” Coleman also wrote for films and television soundtracks/films. He was a man who was a major force in contemporary popular music. The shows are Co-hosted by Bill Rudman and The Musical Theater Project, and Paul Ferguson and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and will also feature the Joe Hunter Trio, Vince Mastro and Treva Offutt. For tickets, call Playhouse Square at (216) 241-6000 or go online at: http://www.playhousesquare.org/events/detail/cleveland-jazz-orchestra-big-spender-the-cy-coleman-songbook
