Where to Stay: Arts & Culture
Stay Overnight Near Cleveland's Arts & Culture District
The city's industrial backbone - led by industrialists-turned-philanthropists like John D. Rockefeller and Jeptha Wade - is much of the reason why Cleveland is known for its world-renowned arts and culture. These visionaries bequeathed their fortunes into the very neighborhoods that now draw visitors from all over the world.
University Circle is one such Cleveland neighborhood where arts and culture have flourished thanks to the generosity of these forefathers. Here, visitors can experience the most concentrated square mile of arts and culture in the country - including the internationally recognized Cleveland Museum of Art and the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra.
When making the arts and cultural pilgrimage to Cleveland's University Circle, finding a unique spot to rest your head is an easy task.
University Circle is rich with preserved history. Appropriately so, the area offers beautifully restored, historic overnight accommodations each with their own... je ne sais quoi.
Doubletree by Hilton, Tudor Arms Hotel
Built in 1929, the 11-story Tudor Arms Hotel was originally known as the Cleveland Club Building, where it served as a lavish private men's club. After a $22 million investment, the property's gothic brick and limestone exterior has been revitalized, as well as the spacious two-story ballroom. The result of these efforts is a stunning 157-room hotel with the character of the early 1900's and the amenities of a luxury hotel in the heart of University Circle.
The Glidden house is an ornate French gothic mansion built in 1910 by the son of the founder of Glidden Paint and Varnish Company. In the late 1980s, the mansion was converted into Cleveland's only full-service boutique hotel. Located within walking distance to all of University Circle attractions, the 60-room hotel features just the right amount of charm combined with urban design and modern conveniences.
This fully refurbished 19th century mansion is today a seven-room inn and popular American-style eatery in the Little Italy neighborhood, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from University Circle. Juxtaposing the historic architecture that runs rampant through University Circle's gorgeous grounds sits some of the city's newest and most luxurious hotels.
