Visitor Stories: December 2017
Stories from the Cleveland Visitors Center

Painting a Cheesehead
One weekend in early December, Cleveland was buzzing with fans from Green Bay here for the Browns-Packers game. Most had done their homework and had an itinerary already in place, but there was one couple who wasn't so prepared. They came into the CLE Visitors Center asking where they could purchase green and gold face paint. After CLE Concierge Lauren made several phone calls, it was located at Starship Earth in West Park. Off in an Uber, the couple went to make their purchase. Several more Packer fans came into the Visitors Center throughout the weekend to get ideas on how to experience the city, with one question coming up more often than any other: "What breweries do you recommend?"
Nonstop from MXP to CLE
A couple from Gallarate, Italy, a town 30 minutes outside Milan, who had lived in Cleveland for a short time a few years ago, returned recently for a weekend getaway (that’s right--a weekend getaway from Italy!). Adele and Mateo arrived late on a Friday night and immediately met friends at Michael Symon’s Mabel’s for some good food and libations. Bright and early Saturday, they visited the West Side Market, followed by a visit to A Christmas Story House and a short trip to University Circle/Little Italy. After meeting up with more friends, they headed over to The Q for a Cavs game (we won!) and closed the evening at Parker’s at The Kimpton Schofield with a nightcap. Early Sunday, they departed for the airport for their return flight to Italy. Now that’s how you spend 48 hours in CLE!
Fun fact: Adele loves Cleveland so much that, while living here, she got a Cleveland skyline tattoo.
A "Sober"ing Night on the Town
Two students from London, enrolled in Tri-C's Hospitality Program, came into the Visitors Center to find out how they could explore the city's night life. This request was a tad challenging, as they were only 20 years old, traveling alone, and unable to fully experience the "spirited" night life they are studying. CLE Concierge Jeannie came up with a PG-rated plan and equipped them with the phone number of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance so they could contact an ambassador to escort them, after dark, to Downtown destinations. Upon exiting the Visitors Center, one of the girls said she has plans to get a visa extension through her 21st birthday so she can have the "full experience" before returning home to London!
Cheers to that!
"Now, THAT'S a Fire(house)!"
A father and son from Ottawa, Ontario were looking for places to get their grub on in Cleveland. After setting them up with several savory suggestions, the son turned to CLE Concierge Jeannie and said, "One more thing… I want to see a nearby Cleveland Firehouse!” He went on to explain that his brother is a fireman, and he brings him something from a firehouse in every city he visits. Jeannie made a call to the firehouse on East 16th and Superior Ave. and arranged a visit for the duo. After that, they were going to swing by the Cleveland Firefighters’ Memorial at First Energy Stadium.
