Three Days in Cleveland Parks

July 17, 2014

 Outdoor Itinerary

10am: Get schooled about Lake Erie, its fish and how we're working to preserve it at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. Sprinkle in the opportunity to see 5,000 sea creatures up-close and in-your-face, and you've got one splashy start to your trip. 2000 Sycamore Street, Cleveland, 44113,

12pm: "I'm on a boat," you rap as you board the spacious Nautica Queen for a lunchtime cruise around gorgeous Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. 153 Main Avenue, Cleveland, 44113,

3pm: Rev the engine and hit the gas. Jet skiing on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie is as exhilarating as it sounds. Great Lakes Watersports provides the skis and other equipment to add some cray to your adventure vacay. 1150 Main Ave, Cleveland, 44113,

6pm: If sitting on a bus with a 100-year-old tour guide warbling over a muffled microphone sounds like a tortuous way to see a city, you'd best book an Historic Neighborhood Tour with Bob's Bike Tours. 101 Carnegie Avenue, Cleveland, 44115,

8:30pm: So, we understand you like bicycling. And, we've heard you like beer. Good news! Nano Brew, a hipster haven in the Ohio City neighborhood, offers its own craft beer and a fantabulous menu complete with a bike box outside and a cycling-themed interior. 1859 W 25th Street, Cleveland, 44113,

8am: Top of the ‘mornin to you! Break the fast at old-school, local favorite Jake's on the Lake where you'll dine just a few feet from Lake Erie. 32485 Lake Road, Avon Lake, 44012,

10am: Work off those bacon and eggs with some stand-up paddle boarding lessons at nearby Huntington Beach Park with Lake Erie Paddler. They provide the equipment and know-how. You just bring your bad self. Huntington Beach, Bay Village, 44140,

12pm: Lunchtime just got gorgeous. Lockkeepers, a tasteful Italian-inspired eatery, is located between the historic Erie Canal and the Cuyahoga River inside the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Dine on the wraparound patio for an "outdoors" experience.  8001 Rockside Road, Valley View, 44125,

2pm: Bike, walk or run the 85-mile-long Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, which runs through the stunning Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Can't make it the full 85 miles?  Board the vintage Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (with bike in tow) for a fun train ride back to your departure location.

8pm: Still on that national park high? Good thing the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra performs its Blossom Music Festival most Saturday nights this summer at a massive amphitheater inside the national park. Bring a picnic dinner or purchase one there while listening to music under the stars. 1145 West Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls, 44223,

8am: The coffee craze has moved beyond talls and ventis thanks to establishments like Rising Star Coffee, which offers discerning customers free trade coffee grown in sustainable ways. 1455 West 29th Street, Cleveland, 44113,

9am: It's been a busy vacay. Get your "om" with a yoga class held on a stand-up paddle board with the help of 41 North Coastal Kayak Adventures. Undoubtedly, falling out of a yoga pose into the water is a lot more fun than falling on the floor. 1500 Cleveland Metro Park Drive, Lakewood, 44107,

11am: After a two-hour sunrise stand-up paddle board yoga class, rent a kayak from 41 North Coastal Kayak Adventures and take a self-guided tour of Lake Erie from the banks of the ‘burb of Lakewood. 1500 Cleveland Metro Park Drive, Lakewood, 44107,

1pm: Exquisite seafood, succulent chops and a to-die-for view of Lake Erie make up the sophisticated Sunday Brunch offered at Pier W in Lakewood.  12700 Lake Ave, Lakewood, 44107,

3pm: Grab your bait and tackle and head to the 200-foot fishing pier at the popular Edgewater Park. Afterwards, relax in the sunshine along the 900-foot white sand beach. Edgewater Park, Cleveland, 44102,

5pm: Luca Italian beautifully molds together refined Italian cuisine, significant pieces of major artwork and one impressive view of the Cuyahoga River and the city skyline. 2100 Superior Viaduct, Cleveland, 44113,

7pm: Sit back and relax "Buffet-style" at Whiskey Island. Grab a picnic table and a cold beer to watch a dazzling Lake Erie sunset as you listen to live music along the coast. Cheesy Hawaiian shirts are definitely NOT required.  2800 Whiskey Island Drive, Cleveland, 44102,
