Eat, Drink and Be Merry This Holiday Season in Cleveland

Ah, the holidays. The oh-so-delicious time of year capitalized with Thanksgiving turkey, gingerbread cookies, Hanukkah sufganiot and fruit cake, all enjoyed in the company of friends and family.

Whether you're an ex-pat who's returning home or a first time Cleveland visitor this holiday season, we know you're in need of good wintertime eats and festive holiday ales--all with a touch of holly jolly.

Oh, Christmas Ale! Oh, Christmas Ale! Oh, How We Truly Love Thee!

Put. Down. The. Eggnog. When November hits in Cleveland, it means one very important thing: seasonal holiday beers are back. And, at risk of sounding incredibly pun-ny, it's like Christmas Day for Clevelanders. Nearly every local brewery offers up some version of a holiday ale, typically spiced with ginger and cinnamon.

Cozy Wintertime Restaurants & Wineries

As the holidays approach, it's almost as if that crisp, cool bite in the air beckons us to savor hearty comfort food, big glasses of red wine and warm fireplaces. This holiday season, warm up at a cozy CLE eatery--complete with stick-to-your-ribs food and warm-you-from-the-inside-out beverages--tucked inside a snuggly interior.

Cleveland Holiday Gatherings

Looking for a place to toast off some of that holiday stress and reconnect with former high school friends, college roomies or long-lost family members? Searching for the perfect hotspot to host a low-pressure homecoming the night before Turkey Day?

That means you need a bar that has the capacity for your spontaneous get-together that offers plenty of space for awkward hugs, OMG-how-long-has-it-been reunions and all that holiday jolliness. Here are 10 great, big options:

Bar Louie:
With four locations in Greater Cleveland, Bar Louie offers plenty of seating in its cool-but-casual urban-style eatery that (in its own words) "kicks other happy hours in the highballs."

Butcher and the Brewer: To say this E. 4th St. brewery and restaurant is huge would be an understatement. It's a must-visit location with incredible culinary offerings matched against distinct brewed-in-house beers.

Dave & Busters: D&B in Westlake is known for its massive square footage that makes impromptu get-togethers a cinch. It's also home to an adult arcade perfect for settling old rivalries.

Fat Head's Brewery & Saloon: If local beer brewed right on site and sandwiches the size of your head (aptly named headwiches) sound up your alley, then get the crew over to the huge Fat Head's Brewery in North Olmsted.

Granite City Food & Brewery: Take a holiday shopping break at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst to meet up with old friends at the spacious Granite City Food & Brewery. Offerings include brewed-on-site beers and American-style dining.

Hofbräuhaus Cleveland: If you're looking for space, this is the place to be. Super close to Playhouse Square, Hofbräuhaus provides more than 24,000-square-feet of beer-y merriment. Did we mention you can dance on the tables?

The Market Garden Brewery & Distillery: Located in Ohio City, Market Garden Brewery is a mainstay of this beer-centric neighborhood with its always-hopping, spacious interior and outdoor beer garden. Did we mention they have unforgettably delicious beers brewed in house?

Masthead Brewing Company: So, you need a place to meet up with all your former HS peeps and their SOs. How about a 300-seat brewery with some amazing suds and delectable pizza to boot? That's the new-school Masthead Brewing in Downtown Cleveland.

Punch Bowl Social Cleveland: Bowling? Billiards? Arcade games? Huge bowls of spiked punch? Located in the Flats East Bank, Punch Bowl Social offers plenty of room for some serious soiree-ing along with a little good, old-fashioned competition.

TownHall: This Ohio City hotspot, with its edgy vibe and offbeat offerings, is big enough to hold your unofficial holiday fete, but quaint enough to not feel overwhelming.
