Holiday Theatrical & Musical Performances in Cleveland

Without question, it happens every December, typically on a Sunday afternoon following a Saturday night holiday soiree. It's the return of classic holiday films.

Before you know it, you've spent an entire afternoon in sweatpants binge-watching holiday classics like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, It's A Wonderful Life and even Home Alone (1 and 2).

And, while there's nothing wrong with enjoying a great holiday flick here and there, there's something far more inspiring about getting off your couch, heading to Cleveland and spending a day immersed in original holiday classics live on stage, as well as captivating musical experiences.

Get going to one of these performances. Your DVR needs a good workout anyway.

Irving Berlin's White Christmas

If there's ever been a standout holiday film, it's the 1954 Technicolor classic White Christmas, starring legendary actors Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.

"Brilliant" would be the word to describe its nostalgic costumed dresses, elaborate dance numbers, the beautiful music of Irving Berlin and a storyline that never ages.

["I'mmmm dreaming of a whiiiiite Christmas." It's stuck in your head now, isn't it?]

PlayhouseSquare brings this holiday classic to life at the State Theatre Dec. 2 - 14. The show is a standout within PlayhouseSquare's wildly popular Broadway in CLE series, as it will feature the return of Broadway actor (and Clevelander) Cliff Bemis.

Purchase tickets now, because this show will be incredibly popular.

A Christmas Carol

What would the holidays be like without Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future? We don't know and we certainly don't want to find out. Enjoy the on-stage production of A Christmas Carol performed by Great Lakes Theater at the Hanna Theatre in PlayhouseSquare Nov. 29 - 30, Dec. 5 - 7, 11 - 14, 17 - 21 and 23.

Cleveland Orchestra's Christmas Concerts

It's really not the holidays without Christmas music. This year, though, go beyond the radio stations blasting holiday tunes 24/7 and experience this seasonal music like never before. The Cleveland Orchestra, consistently rated within the top orchestras in the entire world, put on a series of captivating Christmas concerts that will leave you simply speechless. The orchestra teams up with several choirs - including the Cleveland State Chorus - to create a holiday experience that will quickly become your newest yearly tradition. Get tickets for shows happening Dec. 12 - 22.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra - or "TSO" as its loyal followers call it - comes to Quicken Loans Arena for its annual concert Dec. 26. This day-after-Christmas extravaganza brings together classic Christmas tunes with a slightly hair-metal twist. If you've never been, this is your big chance.
