Yoga Classes, Events & Offerings in Cleveland

Every vacation needs a little zen. And, what better way to get your ommmm on than practicing your downward dogs and tadasanas with the local yogis.

Here in Cleveland, we like to go beyond the walls of traditional studios with a variety of eccentric and unexpected classes, as well as large yoga events that are worth the trip alone.

Wouldn't it be cool to practice sun salutations on the front lawn of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or inside the Cleveland Museum of Art with 1,500 other yogis? Not only is it cool, it's a total reality here in Cleveland thanks to a movement known as Believe in Cleveland.

This hugely popular yoga event, which often draws thousands, happens every four months at an extra unique Cleveland location and often includes music, dancing, education and food. Other previous locations have included huge art studios and former factories. The ultimate purpose: raise awareness, generate energy and accelerate the exciting revolution happening in Cleveland.

If practicing yoga in the utopia of an outside setting is your thing, then North Coast Namaste is the perfect fit. Organized by the Cleveland Downtown Alliance, yogis can culminate on gorgeous Voinovich Park that flanks Lake Erie for 45 minutes every Tuesday during the summer.

Or, escape the hustle and bustle of downtown for Yoga by the Falls in the serene, quaint city of Chagrin Falls on the first and third Saturdays of each month this summer. During these vinyasa flow classes, you'll strengthen your practice while overlooking a calming natural waterfall.

Let's face it, at some point the typical chanting played over your yogini's iPod gets kind of old. Restart your beginner's mindset during a Yoga Rocks the Park event in the uber cool neighborhood of Tremont. On various Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, a local musician teams up with a local yoga teacher for an out-of-the-ordinary class (and great music) in beautiful Lincoln Park.

Wash down your yoga practice with a frosty, cold one. [Say what?] Yes, my fellow yogi, you have officially arrived in Cleveland. And, around here, beer pretty much pairs with everything. Balance & Brews offers the opportunity to do a one-hour yoga class inside a brewery, followed by a tasting and tour afterward.

There's stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on Lake Erie. Then, there's yoga. Both activities are very cool. But, imagine doing them simultaneously. If that sounds up your alley, give it a shot with the help of Lake Erie Paddler. Vinyasa flow classes aboard stand-up paddleboards are provided throughout Cleveland.

Or, check out SUP Cleveland, which offer 75- to 90-minute stand-up paddleboarding yoga at Edgewater Park or Wallace Lake.  For an added bonus, they even offer SUP yoga classes during the wildly popular Edgewater LIVE, which are beach parties held every Thursday during the summer in Edgewater Park downtown.

In addition, SUP Cleveland also offers sunrise and sunset beach yoga instruction, which allow you to channel your inner zen with the calming backdrop of the city skyline and relaxing sound of the waves rolling along the shore.

And, for those yogis staying overnight in Cleveland's energetic downtown, consider a class inside the city's historic House of Blues, Offered every Saturday at 10am, East 4th and Yoga are donation-based, 90-minute classes that aid local charities.
